I must disagree. It sounds like he has made a deliberate effort to re- create that sound- especially on the track ' slow burn' where anyone can hear that the bass line is a close copy of the Heroes bassline. Even the guitar is similar- but the mistake was to get Pete Townsend to re create the Fripp-esque lead. Pete plays well, but it is crying out for that distinctive Fripp sound. Other tracks have a similar drum sound & style to tracks on Low. Thats what I noticed anyway, as soon as I listened to it! shaun ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 23 Jun 2002 19:23:23 -0400 From: "Alan Cohen" Subject: cd exchange To the person that is putting together the CD exchange (I'm sorry, I can't remember your name), I deleted your email before I sent you my address. If you could send me another email, I'd really appreciate it. By the way, I believe that Torn is a Fripp replacement on the Bowie CD, which I have yet to hear. I remember quite a while ago reading Toyahs diary, and she wrote that Bowie had spoken to Fripp after one of the WFC concerts about appearing on his album. I enjoy Torn, but, you know... So, to all of those out there *demmanding* that the pre-ToaPP album sessions be released, did it occur to you to check the club schedule? Club #21 is listed as "The Champaign-Urbana Sessions, 1983", and has been ever since #20 was released- shortly before this thread started, I believe. Since the interviews in the 30th Anniversary ToaPP liner notes indicate that the released album was recorded in Woodstock, and the "scapped" album was recorded during 1983, its reasonable to assume this is it. So calm down and buy #21 when its released :) hha ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 23 Jun 2002 18:33:01 -0700 (PDT) From: Henry Andrews Subject: Need new owner for "The King Crimson Alumni Discography Project" Hello ET, I recently received some submissions for The King Crimson Alumni Discography Project, which to be honest I'd almost forgotten I set up. I lost track of updating it years ago (the last date on the page is 1/31/99), and I don't even officially have the account where it resides anymore. At least, no-one seems to be billing me for it... Anyway, I stopped updating it due to the hassles of working in start-up companies, and other interference from life in general. While KC continues fascinate me (unlike many other bands I discovered in college), I don't really have the time to update the site anymore. So if you can host it, please let me know and I'll see about getting you the files and the update emails that I've sadly neglected. The site is at http://www.concentric.net/~handrews/music/crimsolo/ and has a link from the ET pages as well. Also, my apologies to all who have sent their entries in without ever seeing them up on the page- I should have handed this over to someone else long ago :( thanks, Henry Andrews hha1 at cornell dot edu ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 24 Jun 2002 22:10:50 +1000 From: "Mike Woods" Subject: Spinal injuries Hello all I was flicking through the Crimson section of my local Borders here in Sydney where I spied two 30th anniversary remasters - Lizard and Islands - in jewel cases (a very reasonable AUD 25 as well!). Casually glancing at the spines I noticed a heinous misspelling - KING CRISMSON !!! Imagine having that staring out at you from your CD rack all the time! Has anyone else spotted this astounding typesetting oversight, or is it just the Australian pressings? Not too sugest wee carnt spel or nufin.... Quality is not good but better than the available boots. I know they were the sources for KCCC 20, but at least the music was properly remastered. The contents themselves are so significant for KC history that anyone that appreciates the lark's era cannot dispose of it for it clearly demonstrates how KC music evolved and how the band created musical ideas and finally gave its final studio results. But with KC there are no final results in terms of music. Listening to whatever recordins of the quartet formation we can clearly see how the studio songs were differently performed, tough never leaving the core. But I shall agree that for the "non diehard crimheads", it would be a little bit too much... That is why the Club is so interesting. It has room for eveyrthing. Next volume will be 1983 rehersals. I have a boot called "Bearsville Studio Rehearsals". It is also very interesting for it shows lots of TOAPP demos without lyrics. Sound quality will be, of course, much better because it is a newer recording. But it is also a "diehard crimhead" stuff. Next suggestion would be something from 1973 first semester which had never been officially released and the best choice would be "Central Park". Yes, there is another one, a year newer than the last quartet show and with the same power. Other nice suggestions will also be the american leg of 1973 2nd semester. The Arlington Texas show has a wonderful 14 minute Fracture version with a longer middle section and also some very funny Fripp words replying to a guy in the audience that told him to "play it louder" which he promptly responded "Perhaps you should listen more attentively", causing audience applause.... Dreams.... long live the club.... Goodman for enlightening me! I have immediately sent communication to both the copyright and my home government bodies. I hope that the other mongrels in the land of fripp and family have also taken note. This is a very important issue and no doubt one that ole bobby boy is paying attention to. The issue of copyrighting has always been a confusing one to me and I guess I never really understood to the extent(especially now) that it could operate. In reading ET I've come to appreciate that a healthy number of people celebrate independence from, at least in word, the labels who act like the big five and the labels who operate in good faith. Big or small, the size of the label doesn't matter, it's how they act and communicate with their respective artists. Any time one group pushes another out of the way and forces itself down your throat should be cause for a red flag. This is what is happening with webcasting and the internet in general. The internet is freedom and people are conspiring to take that away from you. For the sake of the art you love and it's ability to breathe and create willingly, speak up against these stifling conditions.
