Does anyone heard norwegian band named "IN THE WOODS..." and how perfect they covered Crimson's "Epitaph"? IMHO - this is the best KC cover ever! ITW' sound on their last album (they recorded only three albums + one compilations of ETs and disbanded two years ago) is pretty much like Crimson in 1973-74. Even on their first album "Heart of the ages" (1995) a first track "Yearning The Seeds Of A New Dimension" [12:23] sounds right as Crimson on "Red", even if it is native norwegian black-metal band! Perhaps this admittance will solve your problem...? >The fact that I'm in an age bracket that is severely >underrepresented among Crimheads (I'm 25) only compounds the problem. I do >have two girlfriends who are the biggest KC fans I've ever met, Are they musicians? ....And their faves are? (just curious) I would guess current incarnation, (or perhaps the `80s line-up)?.........those Ade tunes. Right? (It`s most rare to meet a woman who finds "Lizard" or "LTiA" astounding). I`ve been introducing various women (some just friends, some of them past girlfriends) to Krimson for years, (w/ little success). The reaction has always been *highly* selective when veering somewhat positive....., and none of them freaked enough to actually run out & buy a KC album. That would`ve totally shocked me. Even the one who was a college station DJ had a mostly tepid response, (& she was a big jazz fan). ...........Guess I should steer clear of "Indoor Games"?? 8^) I`m sure many here would find it most enlightening to hear the feminine perspective on which specific Krimson pieces have had the most profound impact on them personally. ....There`s way too much testosterone on this list. ...............Ladies? >....however, we >are definitely the exception rather than the rule. My wife gets the ascreaming horrorsa whenever I play any Crimson! (well you know which songs!) She actually likes tunes like Walking on Air, and Heartbeat (and chuckled at Prozac Bluesa|sheas a pharmacist!) but anything like Red, LTIA II, or Thrak! Scares her! (sheas also afraid ELPas Karn Evil 9! Haha!) Her musical tastes are a bit more pedestrian and radio based. Whenever weare hitting a long trip together, the ahardesta music we seem to agree upon is along the lines of Elton John (ok..KC related..almost) Sting (post Police! Of course) and Billy Joel (not to mention the odd Broadway soundtrack) (About the only redeeming factor is if I want to get her out of the basement I just stick in some KC, ProjeKcts, or something similar and SHEaS GONE! Haha!!!) Ironicallya| I actually work with a woman that likes KC! (and not the Sunshine band either!) I was dropping something off at her desk and decided to rustle through her discs while I was talking to her and found (much to my amazement) DISCIPLINE! She loves that version of the band, (and onward) and has actually seen them 3 times (1 double trio, 1 double duo and 1 ProjeKct!) Sheas about the only person that doesnat look like a adeer in headlightsa when she looks through my disc caddy! She actually has enough astonesa to pick out a disc by someone that sheas never heard (or heard OF) and give it a good listen. Itas kind of interesting to have BOTH situations close at hand, however. Iave never really come across too many females that have an appreciation for music OTHER than whatas on the radio at any given moment. (but reading the recent ETas, it appears that many are acoming out of the woodworka) I do applaud ANYONE that doesnat stick to what the aprogrammersa are telling us to like, both in music and TV! (or movies) Did you ever wonder what it would be like if a ablockbustera movie had a predominantly aCrimsona soundtrack? Hmmmmm?!?!?! [ See above :-) -- Toby ] I'm in my second marriage and always had to listen to KC by my own ,except for Larks 2 that is also appreciatted by my 9 year-old son. Both wives hate KC and so do most of my friends' wives, with the exception of one of them that likes the melodic part of "Fallen Angel". Of course if they would listen to "TRIO", "Cadence" or "I Talk to the Wind" they might have changed their minds at least for one of these songs. But since they are not really significant of what KC music really is... My favourite song so far is "Easy Money" from LTIA mainly because of Jamie Muir percussion effects. But "TD/Larks2", "Fracture", "Red" and "Starless" always blow my mind. A quick question and a comment. I just got my second copy of the 30th anniversary CD Remaster of Starless and Bible Black, and on track 6 "The Mincer," the audio abruptly cuts out after about 4 minutes and 8 seconds. It sounds as though the tape machine just stops. The disc definitely does not skip. It's been a while since I've listened to this song-is it supposed to be this way? Also, I just obtained a copy of the long out of print Japanese Import double CD of The Young Person's Guide To King Crimson. (Jasrac 1990) What a treat! It contains an extensive booklet with concerts listed from 69 to the mid 70s. I want to request that this be released domestically, in addition to Earthbound and USA. Cheers!
