I realize some of you didn't like the "mini" albums, I for one, loved it. This is a great opportunity to hear Gabriel's stuff re-mastered and in a neat package. It used to be available through DGM, I don't know if that's still the case. It's a lovely solo acoustic Belew CD and well worth buying if you like "Burned by the fire we make". I first came across that song (which actually made me buy the album) on the first DGM sampler "Sometimes God Hides: The Young Person's Guide To Discipline". This compilation was available as a free promotional CD in 1996 and contains a very nicely composed collection of RF, KC and related material. This is, from what i understand, completely wrong. If you undercut the larger retailers, why would they bother selling your CD? I have bought CDs from DGM instead of, say, Amazon, simply because i would rather let DGM have my $16 than let Amazon have my $14.50, of which they already paid DGM $8 (or whatever) in advance. The difference in price is not high enough that it will cause me to bargain-shop. I realize some people might simply prefer to save a buck, but i would assume that most people on this list, at least, would rather support DGM in any way that is feasible. An extra $1.50 per CD does not strike me as an extreme hardship. rone ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 27 Apr 2002 22:27:24 +0400 From: "Erik DePoy" Subject: KC to tour with Tool in 2002? Thanks to all for the responses (and the private email)... and I have another question at the end... I actually got impatient before receiving most replies (I've been debating joining the club and eyeing several releases for a while) and went ahead and ordered Summit, Mainz and Beat Club. Beat Club is actually for a friend, but after reading some of your responses, I'm sure I'll want it too. If I like Summit enough I'll probably get Detroit as well. I love Islands, including Boz, but I hate the scatting (I have Earthbound on vinyl). That's what's kept me hesitant about these live releases. This weekend I've been OD'ing on the official live releases by the 73-74 band and the 90's stuff, so I'm sure I'll end up buying more club releases. A quote from the ET Web site releases page says most of it is on the Great Deceiver set. However, according to ET, the show is from June 28th, 1974, and my Great Deceiver says June 30th, 1974. I don't want to buy the same show again (unless Asbury Park makes it worth it). Can anyone elaborate? If I could find out the differences in the 1974 releases, and the differences between the 1972 releases in the songs they both repeat like if there are amazing new solos, if the improvs are incredible, if they change parts of the songs or the lyrics, or do something new or experimental... stuff like that. adn with the VROOOM sessions and the Rehersals.. are these releases shwong anything amazing in the band, are they good songs, what kind of songs are they, what does it show about the band at the time, stuff like that. this is serious business folks. please, let me know, personal replies might be best if you are really going to give a good analysis of the music, i wouldnt want to clog ET with stuff no one cares about. Also im very interested in the Live at Moles Club Bath 1981.. what is this show like? is it raw? does give a great window into what the band was like on their first performance? are the songs any different? whats the feeling like listening to it? this si probably the only 80's club release im interested in. someone please let me know how it is and what the track lengths are. thanks Thanks Jordan ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 28 Apr 2002 12:22:44 -0400 From: "Nik Smith" Subject: What will happen to that KCCC release of Zoom Club, 1972? My bands I liked when I was a kid in the 80's were Hall & Oates, Van Halen, Kiss and Twisted Sister etc. When I Finished High School in '92, My friends and I were getting bored with Metallica and everything else like that and started getting into The Doors, Led Zeppelin, Steely Dan, and of course (I play drums) we had RUSH. A friend from work in '92 gave me the Classic Yes Cd and said if ya like Rush you will like Yes. Obviously I knew Owner and Roundabout. Well I was blown away when I heard Bill Bruford on Heart of the Sunrise. I got into Yes so much I finally found the King! My first KC CD was Larks' and I don't know what happened but I have pretty much everything except the sex sleep EP. I have all the KCCC discs, the Box sets, well I just got ahold of Level Five (japanese version) Vrooom Vrooom, and my Nashville 2001 in the mail, Why are we Elephant talkers so enthused about this band? I have the answer, King Crimson is not a boring band, there is so much to listen to. On another note, well you have Tool (did the shows with KC, I still can't believe that happened!) Then ya got THE MELVINS, adam from tool played with them on some of the new discs, King Buzzo (guitar, vocals of the Melvins played guitar on Tool's DVD) which was a Zep cover of No quarter, which at the end they messed around with "The Ancient" by YES and ended it with a Frame by Frame bit. Then there is FANTOMAS, King Buzzo on guitar, Mike Patton (Faith no More) on vocals & Keys, Trevor Dunn on Bass, and the Mighty Dave Lombardo (Slayer) on drums, It is scary music, but I can finally see a perfect circle of bands here! Bob Fripp if giving us the goods here, I know we all pay lots of $ for it but it's a nice hobby! But really I don't care if it is the 1969-1970 band, The Boz era, The Jamie Muir recordings, The Adrian Belew 80's, The Double Trio, the Projekcts, and the TCOL and now nuovo metal. It nice to say that King Crimson is where it's at and Fripp and the guys never cheesed out like Yes and Genesis. (even though I still like it) Hey Toby I just wanted to add a post concerning music and stuff for a change! God bless DGM and the KCCC. I believe you refer to "Burned by the Fire We Make", which is actually a solo piece by Adrian (not KC). It can be found on the first Young Persons Guide to Discipline sampler CD (not sure whether you can still get it or not). This was an acoustic version, there is also a more fully arranged version on one of Belew's solos albums (the name escapes me but I'm sure someone else will be able to chime in with the correct CD). The acoustic version might also be available on a Belew release, again, if someone has the title I'm sure they will chime in (I think this release was an import only, but could be wrong). It is a very nice song...! Reminds me of another piece from the sampler, a Fripp soundscape, the most beautiful one I've heard, but which to my knowledge hasn't seen the light of day in a commercial release... ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 28 Apr 2002 23:31:47 +0100 From: David Cross Subject: David Cross: Clubs in Gemany?
