It was one of the best shows I've seen in years. Very inspiring. KC seemed a little nervous. They made a few mistakes (Which I've never seen them do before). It was exciting to see. Fripp himself tripped on a sequence from a hand cramp, shook his fingers out and stayed out until the next section of the song. He never looked towards the audience. Belew looked over at him and gave him a smile and a laugh. They played a few off of Construkction, some off of Thrak three new songs (All fantastic) a couple off of Discipline and Three of a Perfect Pair. It was a beautiful show. The sound was good. Last time KC was in South Florida, their sound crew gave them a typical rock band sound with a boomy kick sound and farty bass tones. They also attempted stereo last time, which only worked if you were in the middle of the theater, but sucked if you were left or right (which I was). This time, the engineering catered to the intricacies of the songs. I hope everybody gets to see them in an intimate setting like this. As much fun as the Tool gig will probably be, I do not think that the audience will have any where near as dynamic a performance then the audiences at these smaller venues. Ahhhh. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 2 Aug 2001 23:36:25 -0300 From: "Emerson F. Maybe... how about hendrix and elp Oh God, no! Absolutely not! Can anyone imagine Hendrix wasting his time with something like "Karn Evil 9"? I don't know where Brian heard this supposed collaboration from, or whether or not it's true...but then again, it may not be that much of a stretch. After all, Hendrix did say that KC, circa '69, was one of his favorite bands. But, no, I don't think this ELP-Hendrix collaboration would have ever come to fruition. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 3 Aug 2001 11:52:30 -0500 From: "Esteban_Gomez_Maqueo_A." Subject: New Tour Date for Mexico City Hello ETers, I should tell you all that a new tour date has been announced for Mexico City. So there's 3 concerts, Friday, Saturday, and now Sunday (August 17, 18 & 19 respectively). The venue for all three dates is the same, Teatro Metropolitan, the place where most of Cirkus Disc 1 as well as the (not available anymore) .wma download were recorded. So there's a good chance because of the extended stay as well as the excellent acoustics of the venue to record something. Hey maybe a new live DVD could be done. :-) Esteban ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 3 Aug 2001 13:42:51 EDT From: Goathead83 at aol dot com Subject: Re: fripp and hendrix? Maybe... how about hendrix and elp In responce to fellow Brian's topic of the supposed HELP group, I would like to point out that this group wouldn't have been HELP, it would have been HELM. This unholy union would have been Hendrix, Emerson, Lake, and Mitchell. (Mitch Mitchell of the Hendrix Experience.) On Greg Lake's web site, an audio clip of this topic featuring his own words says that he and Emerson would have tried it out, but they had prior obligations to meet with Carl Palmer, and soon after, Hendrix passed away. Still, this idea of this 'supergroup' of sorts would be pretty cool, but isn't this a little off the subject. I thought we're supposed to talk about the Great Crimso. Joe. Discuss. It probably wouldn't have happened right away ... I heard that Emerson was fed up with Davy O'List from his Nice days and refused to work with a guitar player, and that this was why Lake was only supposed to be a bass player. -- Christopher Heckman ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 04 Aug 2001 13:42:07 +0100 (BST) From: "N.J.WHITTAKER" Subject: ThraKaTTaK, KC Related Look-a-likes, Heavy ConstruKction etc. Hello all, My first post in a very long time! I'd been meaning to send something for quite a while but hadn't got around to it so here goes - - Regarding the fella's post about 'ThraKaTTaK' - 'ThraKaTTaK' is, IMO, one of KC's finest releases - really inspired improvisation. Not to mention that 'Mother Hold The . . . ' is one of the greatest named songs ever sitting alongside such gems as 'Neon Meate Dream Of A Octafish' by Captain Beefheart & His Magic Band, 'The Dog, The Dog, He's At It Again' by Caravan and '(Big) John Wayne Socks Psychology On The Jaw' by Hatfield & The North. I bought my copy second hand and it is in a fold out cardboard case, I wondered whether this was a limited ed. or were they all in cardboard? Mine has a number scrawled on the back in black marker - '2402' - which also made me suspect it was a special thing - probably not, but worth asking I think . . . - I have noticed in recent months a couple of KC related look-a-likes. The most striking one I think is the resemblance of John Wetton on the cover of 'Red' to the McGann brother who starred in the early 90s British sit- com 'The Upper Hand', remember that one? It was on ITV around the same time as BBC showed '2.4 Children' a lot. Uncanny resemblance! Also, my friend noticed just how much Bill Bruford on the cover of 'The Yes Album' looks like Jamie Oliver 'The Naked Chef'. Anybody else see that one? - I also had to ask if anyone always feels while listening to the track 'Heavy ConstruKction' (the version on 'Cirkus' & 'Sometimes God Smiles') that it threatens to become 'Every Little Thing' by Yes from their debut album? Don't just dismiss this yet! Compare the brief phrase from 0:58 in 'Heavy ConstruKction' to Peter Banks' guitar part at 0:04 in 'Every Little Thing'. I know it's only a small point but I just wondered if anyone else had noticed it. Food for thought for us all I think . . . I assume that because of your use of the word HELP, you mean Hendrix and ELP > Hendrixhad everything ELP lacked, and vise versa. I might not go that far, but I do think Keith has always needed a guitarist who had both his virtuosity and power, and yes, Hendrix would have more than fit the bill >Has anyoneelse heard of this? Does anyone agree that HELP wouldhave been the >super group of the 70's? It is unlikely they would have been called HELP. At the time, Emerson and Lake were not working with Palmer. What did happen was that Keith, who had just left The Nice, and Greg, who had just left KC, met with Jimi and Mitch Mitchell, who had just parted ways with Noel Redding. The story I read was that Jimi and Mitch showed up with bodyguards, which the younger and less experienced Emerson and Lake were intimidated by. Emerson and Lake, from what I've read, decided the scen, ie, the entourage of Hendrix and Mitchell, was not what they wanted to be a part of. It is not clear to me that either Emerson or Lake had thought of using their names as a band moniker, so it is doubtful that either HELM or HELP would ever have been considered as group names. But, no doubt, some powerful music would have been made. As long as I have this forum, does anyone know if there are any recordings of Emerson and Pat Travers, who were said to be recording/rehearsing in the early eighties? Also, has anyone else ever heard of a collaboration b/t Rick Wakeman, Neal Schon, and Billy Cobham? As these are both severely off topic, please respnd to me privately @ MDJLUMP at aol dot com Michael Jeter ------------------------------ End of Elephant Talk Digest #866 ********************************
