They wanted $40 but i thought that was too much. Should I buy it if I see it at the next record show? Is it official or a bootleg cause it sure looked like the other 3 80's releases. Does anybody know what date/show it was from? Maybe it's a KCCC release now. ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 3 Jun 2001 16:08:38 -0700 From: "Mathew Duckwitz" Subject: Re: Subject: camping for tickets??? It should be noted that this mini tour tool went on was at smaller venues. According to the band they were a bit nervous to perform new 6-13 minute songs in front of a coliseum crowd. They felt more comfortable road testing the new songs in front of a more intimate crowd. After all, they haven't had a new album out for 6 years and hadn't been on the road together for a almost a couple years. They have said that the August tour will be at bigger venues, so you won't have to worry about 60 second sell outs, but if you want floor tickets I'd suggest you show up at the Ticketmaster office when tickets go on sale. These tend to sell out in an hour or so. The whole concert may sell out in a week if it sells out. shunyata ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 04 Jun 2001 00:16:39 From: "Dale Hoyt" Subject: John Sanborn and the "HeartBeat" video Quick answer to the music video query: A very important early video artst, John Sanborn, did a music video to "HeartBeat" featuring Belew stumbling around a singles bar. Its very funny and beautiful. It may be distributed by The Kitchen Center in New York City. I bought it, even though i find some of the early KC lyrics a bit cheesy (dungeons and dragons, purple pipers, etc...). the book has a lot of the poems used as crimson lyrics, along with a ton of other Sinfield originals. has anyone else seen this book or does anyone know if this is a rare or mildly important find? thanks for reading, -andrew, 22, ann arbor, MI ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 4 Jun 2001 12:17:36 -0400 From: "Heilbronner, Mike" Subject: Rare Crim and other related Prog for sale Hi: Please email if you're interested. This was never my intent. While the majority of responses have been positive (with people entering the contest, and/or signing up for the mailing list), the fact remains that there are some people who would rather not see the contest announcements at all. Because of these emails, there will not be any more announcements sent to the list. If you *are* interested in the contests, please send an email to editor at thenightowl dot com (or just reply to this email) and ask to be put on our mailing list. Otherwise, bookmark our site and check back periodically. Thanks to everyone who's entered in the past & I hope you'll continue to do so in the future. Probably not. This is just the weirdness of the marketplace. I find the popularity of the Primus album Pork Soda similarly inexplicable, but am glad it is so. I, for one, am hoping to get to one of the Tool/Crimson shows as I wish to support Crimson's outreach efforts and generally prefer younger audiences. "Stout, stodgy, standing stock-still" does not, for me, describe the ideal rock and roll crowd, even if they are attentive. Like to think I can an eclectic ear to all forms of music. With that in mind and knowing Mr Fripp is a canny sort of fellow who would not tour with Tool if he thought they were a bunch of bozos. I bought Lateralus and frankly (despite the adverse postings) I am delighted. I may be an old farty but I think its brilliant and would definitely appeal to a KC audient. But like KC nah they sound more like Jethro Tull with attitude (ooh I can here the flame throwers loose their safety catches) its harsh, intense, dark breathtakingly beautiful in places. The musicianship is outstanding and bugger me my 16 old daughters already nicked it. Oh well. Cheers John Time flies like an arrow. It was an absolutely wonderful experience, and if you can, GO! The house was packed, the music exeptional, and the company down to earth (I sat right next to Alan White, who became quite buzzed, and seemed to enjoy Billy B's playing. The show ended with Bridge of Inhibition, from the first earthworks cd. My all-time favorite, and Bill proceded to walk off the stage and sign autographs next to my table. I will not personally ever again ask for an autograph, as I saw T Lev. mumble, "great, here they come" as about 10 people came to get an autograph from him at a p3 show. Anyway, for your own good, attend an earthworks show, you will not regret it. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 6 Jun 2001 22:29:37 -0600 From: "Elaine C. Erb" Subject: McFall's latest I just got ahold of the newest releases from Mr McFalls' Chamber and want to recommend them. Conveniently, I heard the tango album, Revolucionario, first. It was the kind of disc that I put on the stereo, went back to work, and had to go back to see what it was I was listening to. This is the kind of disc that I can recommend for my mom, a major classical music snob and fan of Astor Piazzolla. When I went on to the next release of cover music, Upstart Jugglers, it was a great contrast. I hadn't expected to so enjoy King Crimson interpreted on the musical saw! Today I played Sheltering Sky on my radio show and had a woman walk in saying she recognized the song but couldn't place it. Of course as soon as the guitar picked up she did identify it. It's great to hear them performing not only commissioned works and King Crimson but a little Raymond Scott on this disc. You can check it out via their website: http://www.mcfalls.co.uk/ And now for a little unabashed selfpromotion. Life has been absolutely crazy for me as we have just moved our radio station! Yes, little old KGNU is not so little anymore. I'm sorry that I couldn't let people know to tune in on Monday for our first live performance from Hamster Theatre, but perhaps Jon Lybrook will be kind enough to archive this show for us. Hamster Theatre features a few of the performers from A Thinking Plague and have recently signed to the Cuneiform label. We do still have an incredible lineup for our Monday night Kabaret shows, 7-8pm MT (9-10pm ET). Next Monday it's Denver based trumpeter Ron Miles, familiar to many for his work with Bill Frisell. Then the following weeks we will have Mollie O'Brien, Tim's sister and an amazing vocalist in her own right, and wrapping up the month is great R&B singer Hazel Miller. Of course for August you can look forward to the return of the California Guitar Trio plus friends! John Wetton Band with Ian McDonald played June 6 and 7 2001 at On Air East, Shibuya,Tokyo, Japan. I was at June 7 Show. On Air is standing only no seats show space. Maybe 600-700 people gathered each show. It was a very good and enjoyable spectacular rock show. (Oh, John's body also expanded spectacular size. Let's excersise John!) They played almost two hours for the songs of KC, U.K. Asia and their solo materials. KC materials are Red, Book of Saturday, Easy Money, Starless, Night Watch and also In The Court Of The Crimson King with beautiful Ian flute. Ian played sax on Red,Easy Money and Starless. And these 3 songs slightly rearranged with Alternative Rock/Garage Punk feel. Night Watch played with Ian's flute and Bach-like keyboard, I like it much better than original. I and my friend amazed young three supporters of guitar, keyboards and drums for their skills and energetic performace. If you like 72-74 Crimson most, When they come to you near, don't miss them. And I hope their live materials issued for CD perfectly. Kaz June 9, 2001 ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 09 Jun 2001 18:53:23 -0400 From: "James J. Hannigan" Subject: Nothing to do with Tool - Giles Giles & Fripp Follow-up to Keith Wright's posts regarding the new GGF release (Metaphormosis on Tenth Planet); I totally recommend it for anyone interested in hearing the pre-ITCOTCK band. It's a mix of hard rock, folk, psych, etc. Some of it reminds me of Gong and other parts like Fairport Convention and other parts Soft Machine (not that they were the imitators, since this is early stuff). Also shows Fripp's classical influences. Judy Dyble sings on a couple of tracks. Ian McDonald is on most of it, as Keith mentioned. Talk to The Wind is on it with Ian and Mike Giles singing, as is a burning "Drop In" with great Fripp guitar. I'm not sure if this was released on CD; anyone who wants me to record a copy onto cassette can email me.
