However, until now I have heard it already over 20 times this week, so I am a litte done here. It was quite a marathon listening to them all. I am still awaiting the 13th KCCC item (not yet arrived) and about to get Heavy ConstruKCtion and Heaven & Earth. Has anyone tried such a marathon before? And what did you experience at the end? Yes, being another Schizoid man, ready for the next Century. Cheers, happy new year! Hans ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 29 Dec 2000 21:42:34 +0100 From: "Markus Gnad" Subject: The Club - Yeah! Dear Elephreaks, I have completed an intense, extreme, continous and overall joyous head-phone-and-car-driving throughlisten to all of the King Crimson Collector's Club Records. No reviews following here, but random comments on the works. Important: I joined the Club at #11, and for no reason at all ordered the first 9 editions via Gary Davis from the Artistshop as Japan Boxes. I purchased item Nr 10 via DGM, 13 came in two days ago (uhm. where's 12?? :-) ). I also warn you: In my current state of Crimpassion I am unable to critisize in an objective way. So: Whatever has the name Crim on it, is good. 1) LIVE AT THE MARQUEE 1969 I never quite got into this line-up until this one. From what I had heard on Cirkus, I always thought of the guys as just being loud and distorted. In fact, Epitaph is the only missing link in my Crim collection! But this one. crash boom bang. Yes, loud and distorted, but absolutely freaky. Good shot. If Epitaph 1-4 becomes available again I'll rape my credit card. Good picture from the playback event. 2) LIVE AT JACKSONVILLE 1972 Goodness, the freakiest KC lineup of all times. Mel is a beast, and Ian and Boz are very. relaxed yet still sick. Anybody can tell me please if this band is being filed under prog rock? Which prog band has focussed on the use of brass, mainly saxophone - both on studio and mainly live? This record finally made me love 21stCSM, which I didn't like before. A very rude recording, a true highlight. 3) THE BEAT CLUB, BREMEN 1972 Didn't quite get me. Maybe because the album is too short. But the idea is very. courageous: A live line-up with three guys in the rhythm section and two soloists. Fripp looks like Jesus on the pictures. 4) LIVE AT CAP D'AGDE 1982 Beast. The "proggers", ha. They sound so contemporary and yet so innovative. Proof: Adrian Belew is the best kid in the band since the beginning. Very heavy, this music. With Adrian came a very sensitive aspect to KC's music, ever noticed? And the fun faKctor! Long live Adrian!!! Pretty pics, shows what the music plays: 4 guys in best shape. A quartet that couldn't be stranger. 5) n 6) ON BROADWAY 1995 The Double Trio. My beloved ones. Thunder in my ears, remarkable playing, stunning great rock music. And Adrian looks so cool with his long hair. The six present strength and power. Too bad I hadn't seen them when they were near. A thrill at the end of "People", really. And a classic "Indiscipline". 7) THE ROAR OF P4 1998 How did I state it? The arabic original title of the dark and mysterious "Necronomicon" is "Al Azif - The Howling Of The Demons". Pat M beats the hell out of his satanic mills with godgiven power. And what have we got to the right? A guy who plays such a fantastic Heavy ConstruKction that I go down on my knees. P3 club release where are you? Uhm... Trey looks very serious on this one, short haired, jacket... 8) THE VROOOM SESSIONS 1994 A masterpiece. Two insane demons beating a drum battery, and some guys (one with long hair and one without any hair) pump bass lines in my stomach. Thanks Tony and Trey for raping my NSX car speakers. Again, so much fun factor here! And I recognize. "I Remember How To Forget". 9) LIVE AT SUMMIT STUDIOS 1972 This was for me the ultimate KCCC release (until 13). In fact, the big surprises of the club for me were 2) and 9). This band is so great. And on this one the sound is superior. I love that one. Ian and Boz have such a relaxed and joyful style. and Mel is the true star of the evening. I'm looking forward to 14 with obsession. 10) LIVE IN CENTRAL PARK, NYC 1974 A hammer. Like all of that line-up. And full of surprises. Did they open every show with another track? These guys knew how to make a show full of tension. Oh, and Jesus is short-haired now. 11) LIVE AT MOLES CLUB, BATH 1981 Hey, they must have pissed off so many guys who loved the 70's Crim - I mean, this was the first step into action again. The perfect start off for the Crim Twins (Ade n Bob I mean). This recording is very rude, in a similar way as Jacksonville. Stomping and picking, and sicking. 13) NASHVILLE REHEARSALS 1997 Almighty. The ultimate. The first 2 minutes alone are worth the whole album. Yesterday this goodie was on continuous throughplay for five times. No joke. The last blast of the Double Trio, but what a blast. Funny, funky, fresh, loud, jazzy, noise, rhythmic, melodic, dark, obsessed, experienced, and. warm. Yes, friendly. The startoff for the most openhearted Crim experience of all times: ProjeKcts, TCOL, PX, HCKC. Do I get it right? 13 CDs of that unsettling and settling time? Yes, that's my Crim. That's the Crim I grew up with. And now. as the millennium turns to an end is a beginning is an end. my favourites of the music history (AFAIK of course). 1) KLAUS SCHULZE - Contemporary Works 1. 10 CD Set released 2 months ago, recorded last three years. 2) KING CRIMSON - KC2K work including ProjeKcts. Includes every recording which led to the final Heavy ConstruKction release, starting from Nashville 1997. I hope I'm allowed to summarize these great works as One Great Work. 3) CARLOS PERON - Ady Henry Kiss Novel Soundtracks. 5 Albums recorded from 1996 until 1999. Some of the most clever of you will recognize that all these works have been recorded and released at the end of the 90's. Makes for a good and strong alternative to BSB, Queen Britney and Robbie Williams. Also note: 1) and 3) are German / Swiss artists, and are suitable as New MusiKc For Eters. For info email me please. Millennium Concert: Sir Reginald Kenneth Dwight alias Elton John on voice and piano, November 25, 2000, Vienna. Now back to rape Aiwa, Projekt, Denon, Bose, Kenwood and NSX. I am a young enthusiast as suggested in the title (16 to be exact). I discovered King Crimson on my own over the internet mostly due to Napster. I have now became quite a King Crimson Enthusiast (I do not like using the word fan due to the implications a fan might have eg. A fan can be ignorant of other music and may be obsessed about the musician rather then the music) But It has been a rather lonely journey indeed! In fact I have never meet a person (apart from you good people at ET) who enjoys or even has listened to King Crimson. My friends like most teenagers are ignorant to anything that is over 5 years old. As for King Crimson just because they were founded in 1969 they will not even try and listen. My parents get rather annoyed by some of the 'noise' that I listen to. But that's life for you. The fact that I live in New Zealand does not help my cause any better. Correct me if I am wrong I don't think King Crimson has ever visited us. It is nice finding a few people who actually don't mind listening to King Crimson. As a question I wish to ask to you all. (I have read the DON'T POST about this subject list) Should I bother to try and help other people my age to discover King Crimson? I have tried without any success. I played a bit of the Red album with a few friends but they disliked it and preferred listening to some rubbish modern pop music. I hope I don't sound too negative or ignorant myself. How can I avoid it I am a teenager. Hopefully there are some younger enthusiast subscribed to Elephant Talk so I know that I am not alone. Thanks for reading. From the bottom of my Crimheart, I ask you: Do you really think that any musician, and if he only cares a bit about his outcome, will NOT give his best and use the best (and most useful) technology for his music? It maybe doesn't sound good to you, but I can imagine that the Crimbrothers work like this: "We won't be finished until WE have done our all to make it sound best." I had a feeling it was going to go out of print. Just like the Eno boxes( I & II). I played all four discs in one sitting. At the time, I thought it was the best Crimson Fripp released. But I have to say for all out weirdness and nasty thrashing The ProjecKs Box comes pretty close. Admittedly, it is tough to top The Great Deceiver Box. For those of you that have not seen it, John Cusack plays a saavy record store owner experiencing angst over his love life. I noticed in the first scene in the record store a copy of DISCIPLINE in the middle of the shelves at the end of a rack. During the film they pan by it about a total of ten times. No one buys it of course. All crimpeople already have it anyway. I'm confident this wasn't an accident. (The only other recogiziable cover I saw was Traffic's Low Spark of Highheeled Boys.) To my knowledge this is the only obscure reference to Crimson in the movies, other than a mention of them in some of the dialog in John Sayles' The Return of the Secaucus Seven. If anyone can think of anymore I'd be interested in hearing about it. Here is a trivia question in this vein: Name three references to Brian Eno in film. (Hint: one is a composition credit; one is some of his music being played; one is a character carrying one of his record albums.) Matthew K.
