That lint was cleaned off by Gary Palin, the laundromat owner that took care of Master Fripp's vest pocket. Gary Palin regularly bought beer at a convenience store managed by Robin Cleese, who had fought in World War II, serving under Captain Malcolm Idle. Malcolm Idle was an english captain of the army, who was cousin of a Private Roger Chapman (son of Roger Idle and Jean Cleese, that had emigrated to the USA in the early '20s). As an american, Private Chapman ALSO fought in WW2, however in the japanese front. Private Chapman was captured in the war and sent to a japanese prisoner camp, where he regularly was mistreated by a certain Sargent Hikaru Takei, one of the low-grade officers in that camp. Sargent Takei survived the war and went back to Tokyo, to reunite with his wife, Michiko. Hikaru and Michiko had four male sons: Noriko, Akira, Tadao and Makoto. Tadao grew up to be a janitor, and found his way to a good-paying job in an important hotel (I can't name it for contractual reasons). During this year, he was told to set everything up in some rooms where a famous rock band's members would sleep in. He dutifully put everythin in its place, including a certain hair dryer. So there you go. I could go thru Noriko and Akira adding only one degree, but you DID specify the hair dryer. -- MIGUEL FARAH // miguel at webhost dot cl #include // http://www.webhost.cl/~miguel <*> "Trust me - I know what I'm doing." - Sledge Hammer ------------------------------ Date: 10 Dec 2000 23:02:51 -0000 From: "Andy Dean" Subject: 6 Degrees - You asked for it ... Thanx, Serge Girard ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 11 Dec 2000 15:36:47 +0100 From: Gnad Markus Subject: Degreeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeees Well, reading through Ian Wallace' diary entry about our... degrees of separation threads... I turned in at Ian's bio and found numerous reasons why we should stop this thread immediately - or it will never stop. Because you get from Ian to almost anywhere in the world; ah yes- and one who looks at Pat Mastelotto's page (discography) will get to double the world. So... Extracts from Ian's bio for proof: "But don't take our word for it. Consider that Bob Dylan has repeatedly hired Wallace as his tour drummer, in the 1970s and again in the 1990s. Consider that Don Henley, himself a drummer as well as a renowned perfectionist, selected Wallace to take over the drum chair for all three of his solo tours through the '80s and '90s. Need more proof: Wallace, who has worked with hundreds of performers, is hired most often by those whose reputations rest on their musical integrity. The Englishman has toured and/or recorded with such notables as multi-instrumentalist David Lindley; guitarists Bonnie Raitt, Ry Cooder, Larry Coryell, Robert Fripp (as a member of King Crimson), Lonnie Mack, Peter Frampton, Robben Ford, Joe Walsh and Alvin Lee; keyboardists Warren Zevon, Eno, and Keith Emerson; and vocalists Roy Orbison, Jackson Browne, Jon Anderson (Yes), Stevie Nicks, Steve Marriott, and Crosby, Stills, and Nash. Did we mention that he recorded with the supergroup The Traveling Wilburys as well? If Wallace wanted to add more ammunition to his case, he could mention that over the years he's sat in with such famed bandleaders as Chuck Berry, Lindsey Buckingham, Tim Buckley, Jimmy Buffett, Eric Clapton, Bo Diddley, John Fogerty, Glen Frey, Billy Joel, Little Richard, Dave Mason, Al Kooper, Linda Ronstadt, Boz Scaggs, Bob Seger, Jo-el Sonnier, Otis Spann, Sting, and Steve Winwood. " Well and so on and so on. And in his diary he states: "Say has anybody seen the Elephant Talk site with the six degrees thing from Fripp to Donovan? A load of old cobblers really, but kind of fun. Margie wrote in, citing my connection being Robert to me, to my former Mrs., Jenny Boyd to Donovan writing Jennifer Juniper, which was about her. Anyway, I've been toying with the idea. The first thing I came up with was Winston Churchill to Fripp. See Winston Churchill was a painter who was the enemy of Hitler who was also a painter, who's girlfriend was Eva Braun the Braun electric shaver heiress, and Robert might have at one time or another, used a Braun electric shaver! Okay, so I'm grasping. Well how about Fripp to Brussels sprouts? Fripp hates flash photos and flashes or at least the flash camera, that was developed by Eastman/Kodak of which Linda McCartney, nee Eastman, was the Kodak heiress, who started a line of vegetarian dishes that include Brussels sprouts! God I'm a genius! " Enough of this - and long live Ian. Having thought yes...no...yes...no...I finally plucked up the courage (and the substantial amount of Australian dollars, given the Australian dollar buys you about 2 bananas on the world currency market these days) and bought myself a Christmas present (without my wife knowing of course...let me say up front she's NOT in the slightest bit KC-centric...women and KC...continuation of a thread that has had some airplay before I think...but from a purely anecdotal perspective let me add my statistic to whoever is collecting statistics on KC's non-appeal to women...it would make for an interesting regression analysis I think). Sweeping generalisation...no strong supporting evidence...absolutely!!, but hey this is the 'net', and whoever said you had to be accurate or substiante a claim on the net...answer...no-one...ya just gotta have attitude man...or something like that. However, I digress. I wanted to talk about 'The Great Deceiver', 4 CDs of KC bliss with sonics to knock your socks off (I don't know whether this is merely a re-release or whether there has been some creative enhancement to the sound but for a LIVE album, and I mean 'live' in EVERY sense of the word, and given it was recorded in 1974 the sonics are nothing short of superb, it really kicks posteriors). I've heard 'Epitath' and 'Absent Lovers', I have the CD of 'The Nightwatch', and am looking forward (after my application to the IMF is accepted), to get hold of 'Heavy Construction'. However, for this little non-colour, non-gender specific duck...TGD is a different animal altogether. It simply amazes me (given LTIA is one of my favourite KC CDs) how much better the live versions are than the studio takes. It is a cavalcade of awesome power with the sustained (seemingly telepathic at times) brilliance of the improvs enough to simply blow your senses away...and it left me I must say with my mouth agape. I actually had the intention of listening to the first CD only, but about 4 hours later...I wondered then, how I could have ever been concerned with parting with the necessary hard-earned readies for this stunningly packaged powerhouse. IMHO, not one of the live LTIA songs suffers from comparison to its studio counterpart and as for the SABB material, again simply ethereal. Cat Food and Peace are a nice addition and add to the overall appeal of this stunningh package. Starless is well...Starless I guess and any version is stunning (I certainly don't want to open myself up to a torrent of ET Rage...but Starless it is truly THE KC classic IMHO). Look I could go on with discussions relating to the quality of the improvs but I am sure all this has all been covered before probably even in this forum (interestingly however...if I can beg your indulgence for a moment longer...out of all the simply fantabulous material, in terms of improvs available that could have been used on 'Red', even though I think 'PPProvidence' (sorry a cyber stutter I picked up some time ago) is very good...'A voyage to...' is simply cosmic...unbelievable). What is my point you may well ask...well nothing really. Anyways, I apologise for this entry which is really nothing more than to say how glad I am that I finally got around to purchasing TGD and if anybody out there doesn't have it and is the least bit interested in hearing KC out there, playing on the edge with dark, brooding, powerful, magnificent (er...uhmmm you get the idea I think...) music...DO NOT HESITATE...DO NOT PASS GO...E-MAIL DGM now and order your copy...believe me you will not be disappointed. Would love to hear other people's first experience of this 4 CD epic...were you also simply blown away on an aural magic carpet??
