Nash Subject: Transcriptions; How to tune a mellotron Hello all, First off, thanks to Dennis M. for the gtr transcriptions! I'll have to grab my saxophone, find a better gtr player than myself, and go off to the races on Schizoid Man..... Also: has anyone else noticed the bit at the end of disc three on The Great Deceiver, long after the last track is over, where Fripp talks to the audience, introduces 'Lament', and then demonstrates "how to get two mellotrons in tune with each other"? Pardon if this has come up before... I rejoined this list fairly recently. Date: Thu, 17 Dec 92 15:30:42 PST I still consider myself somewhat of newbie, so please don't be shocked that I don't have any recordings from the Wetton/Bruford/Cross/Fripp era. What should I get first, _The_Great_Deceiver_ boxed set or the three albums (_Larks Tongue in Aspic_,_Starless and Bible Black_,_Red_). Anything from the studio albums left off the live boxed set? I've never been able (despite serious search) find any Crimso sheet music. And I can see why. I guess I knew it was like this, so I'm really impressed with what you've done. That said, I don't really play guitar or read tab well. I'm going to try your chords against the vocal line (particularly Epitaph) and post if I come up with anything more keyboard oriented. Others have written the following: >> I'm drooling in anticipation of the live box set. If I >could get it for around $50 I might actually buy it. > > -paul pmartz at dsd dot es dot com > Evans & Sutherland I just want to comment that i think you might be getting ripped off for either $110 or $50 or whatever. I was able to get the box set for $39.99 plus tax (6%), and I even had to special order mine from a record store. Not only that, but the record store was the "Sound Shop," which, at least in my area, is known for its high prices and lack of involvement with anything non-mainstream. So if the Sound Shop can get it for me for $39.99, you might want to look elsewhere for making your purchace. And on a personal note, I gotta say that the box set is incredible! 4 CDs of hell and precision. I listen to all 4 discs at least once a day! And the booklet is hilarious and kinda cool. I especially love that photo of Jamie with the blood capsules! Well, if you are in doubt about whether or not to get the box set, I say get it! "The Great Deceiver" is worth every bit of $39.99! -Lewis Beard lewis at tacky dot cs dot olemiss dot edu [][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][] From: pvallado at sdcc13 dot UCSD dot EDU (Paolo Valladolid ) Subject: Re: Discipline #70 Date: Sun, 20 Dec 92 15:37:02 PST > on other post, John Relph notes: > >>Fripp: I never did drugs, you see, so I was only told about the connection. > > >French confection, French Connection, drugs, get the connection? > > I got a great laugh out of this too. This has baffled me ever since I first read this interview. Another item from the interview that confuses me is Fripp being such a big fan of Tony Williams (not that there's anything wrong with that in itself!), considering how playing with Bruford, a drummer heavily influenced by Williams, eventually drove him nuts. Two years after this interview, Fripp would complain about Bruford's "interrupting his personal time". Guess what, Mr. Fripp, Tony Williams plays with the time even more than Bill Bruford! BTW, I got a very different impression of McLaughlin in a 1990 interview where he was paired up with Yngvie Malmsteen. This McLaughlin was far more confrontational (Sample: "Who the f*%k do you think I am, an old man?!?"). Not at all the sweet gentleman who was interviewed by Robert Fripp... -- Paolo pvallado at sdcc13 dot ucsd dot edu Find notes that are joyful to you, play them at a fast tempo, and people will get something out of them. - John McLaughlin Style doesn't signify a thing; it's just the way you do something - Allan Holdsworth [][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][] Date: Sun, 20 Dec 92 11:28:56 PST From: dunn@saffron (Casey Dunn) Subject: new member questions... Is there a "list" of KC/fripp boots? The only one I have tracked down is titled "indiscipline", methinks, and I'm wondering about more. particularly boots of fripp/sylvain...fripp/billnelson is there an FTP archive for scanned KC covers, etc?
