I read somewhere (no idea where, this could be pure heresay, who knows?) that it was indeed RF, but it was deemed necessary to inebriate him first with alcohol in order to enable him to "play the blues". True or not, it's certainly amusing. I suspect it probably is RF (even if the alcohol bit is someone having a joke) as, although it doesn't sound like his style of playing, it is most innovative - nice use of fret-sliding whole chords and fast, envelope altering volume swells. Then again, I'm not familiar with the "other guitarist"..... Don't listen, Bill! Bill's writings are fantastic and funny, and easily among my favorite contributions to ET. Not only do I frequently fall off my chair laughing, but if it weren't for him, I'd get precious little use of my Oxford English Dictionary. Thanks for the laughs. Keep'em coming. Justin P.S. I seem to be one of the lucky few who has all four gatefold cardboard remasters. I bought ITCKC at a local store and pre-orded the remaining 3 from DGM USA maybe a month ago. I think they are fantastic and cannot add any other praise to them, artwise or soundwise. The only defect I noticed is that on their sides two of them have the titles of the album and two of them don't! And the two that do have the titles don't have them written in the same direction! An unforgivable oversight. In any case congratulations to all involved for a job very well done! I now notice this controversy regarding their availability, that Caroline Records did not order enough, this or that. I have purchased all of them in USA but all of them are made in Holland (CIRKUS as well) and are the Virgin edition, which in consequence makes me wonder where are the Caroline editions or did Caroline they simply import the European edition? Oh, please don't start on Mr. Kent. This stuff is priceless, and belongs on ET at least as much as the drivel that most people post. Thanks to Laurent Masse for pointing out that there is no mention of Earthbound II on the "Schizoid Man" single. The sleeve states the track is from Earthbound (deleted). The reference to Earthbound II (I knew I wasn't imagining the whole thing) comes from "A Robert Fripp Discography" v3.01 March 1997 by Tim Pickard. I don't know Tim myself but I suspect some of you do. In note 8 concerning Earthbound to the discography: "Officially deleted but there may be plans to re-release it. 'Earthbound II' is currently being compiled for release by Discipline Global Mobile." Hey Tim, do you read et? Perhaps you could comment. I downloaded the Windows Media player (again) and also the marker file for the concert. It appears to work, but absolutely not one iota of sound can be heard at all even though the player appears to be playing. I am running MacOS 9.04 which is brand, brand new and may be a potential issue as in OS 9 several changes was made to Sound Manager. Since I've got FireWire on board I cannot revert to OS 8.6. Not an ideal solution perhaps. Stay tuned. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 6 Apr 2000 15:39:27 EDT From: Ctao at aol dot com Subject: Beware the Waters of Eden... I, too, thought Tony Levin above "cheesing out". I , too, thought it impertinent to diss the project based on its Narada affiliation. Should have trusted my instincts! I'm a huge Tony fan, and have always found his taste, tone, and touch above reproach. Sadly, this record proves the exception to the rule: "Waters of Eden" is, at worst, very cheesy indeed. At best, it's simply saccharine, pedestrian, New-Agey fuzak. As one would expect, the playing is excellent throughout (though one would have hoped for a more interesting guitarist than Jesse Gress, whose playing, though competent, is generic at best, as well as a bit lacking in the tone department). One also might hope for some more fireworks from a reunited Marotta/Levin rhythm section. Although we get a brief update of the classic gated drum sound used so well on Peter Gabriel III, that's about as exciting as things get. Admittedly, this is not a rock record, but it's a bummer that Jerry "The Primitive" (Gabriel's tag, not mine) doesn't get to kick his heavy beat a bit more. Anyone expecting the kind of rawness of B.L.U.E., or the funky, cultural vagabond vibe of "World Diary" will not find it here: this is another beast entirely. Although some nice melodies hold things together, the arrangements are heavy on the schmaltz. My respect for Tony is undiminished. One "wrong" note doesn't negate a long and amazing career of "right" ones. I just thought that many an ETer might have some issues with this one. Caveat Emptor, IMNSHO. The new web address is: http://www.difference-engine.org We have a guest book and have received positive feedback from those who have visited the site. We also have a Notes from the Keyboard Stool page. Here is a list of songs on the site: Good Bye Pork-Pie Hat (Charles Mingus) VROOOM (King Crimson) Common Ground (Mike Stern) Dance of the Maya (John McLaughlin) Way of the Pilgrim (Michael Walden) Red (Robert Fripp) Devotion (John McLaughlin) Resolution (John McLaughlin) We would appreciate feedback from people about our music.
