Actually, it was Islands and I would say that the bass playing is rudimentary at best. I'd say that the recording doesn't do him justice, he had only been playing a few weeks at the time. By the time he was in Bad Co., he was much improved...not Stanley Clarke level, but a good feel player. If you're just starting out yourself, it's a good album to practice with since most of the lines are pretty cool, and are repeated without any variations, making them easy to cop. Would someone please post this interview or email it to me? Songs aren't repeated that often actually. About one in three tracks is labeled an improvisation, but those tracks might be longer, I don't know. Anyway, $60 is hefty, I think two or three CD's would have been sufficient. I await the 81-84 set. I think it's basically a beat-the-boots project, and since there are so many boots of that period I guess he feels like people might want the whole thing. Maybe he should take a hint from Genesis and release live stuff in chunks so people can buy the stuff they like. Crimso's labeling is getting more and more confusing. It says Virgin E'G, distributed by Caroline ... but now there is something called Discipline records, the logo of which we have seen before. So what the different roles are, I don't know. Maybe I should hone my shoplifting skills but I guess Bobby wouldn't approve of that either...
