I finally downloaded the Windows Media player for the Macintosh in order to finally examine the much discussed "Live in Mexico" King Crimson show and found some rather unusual technical issues to surmount. Currently, I am using a machine in a 256k DSL connection and find that if I attempt to listen to the performance, I am greeted with a grating, horrendous effect - several seconds of music, a pause, then several seconds of music. It happens in a fairly regular pattern and the effect is that of: music..dead silence..music..dead silence. It renders the experience all but unlistenable. I've used other streaming audio and video applications without problems before. Have any other Mac users experienced this? My setup: Mac 6400 / 180 (180 mhz 603ev), 80 megs ram, 512k L2 cache, gigs of hard drive space, 256k Cisco DSL router + assante 100BT ethernet card. Thanks for any recommendations you may be able to provide - it sounds like an interesting show, I just can't seem to listen to it without these annoying, 1-2 second pauses littering the audio. -Todd ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 12 Mar 2000 15:59:42 +0000 From: bass456 at worldnet dot att dot net Subject: justifying rudeness First, when trading Dead tapes,I saw an 81 Crimson tape on a guy's list and I did get it,so I am not without sin here.Robert Fripp does not want people taping his shows. His reasons are his business. The Dead didn't care, even encouraged taping,so the comparison is invalid.I've yet to see Crim, but some of my favorite concert experiences have been Soundscapes and Adrian solo.I don't want Fripp to decide it's not worth the aggravation because people do not respect his wishes, but, with some people publicly stating they're going to tape whether Fripp likes it or not,I can't say I'd blame him.No amount of explanation or justification makes it right. ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 12 Mar 2000 09:56:27 -0600 From: Gudrun Subject: Re: A few notes about KCCC9 Having (fairly) recently seen the master Pharoah Sanders perform this composition, (which I hadn`t heard since buying his LP "KARMA" back around 1970), it`s a revelation, certainly, to know there is a Krimson cover of same! THESE are precisely the gems I would hope to find on a CC release. Wonderful! I now wonder what other jazz influences/covers were performed (and documented!) ?????? I would highly suggest to any ET readers who are so inclined to search out a copy of the original. (Then, if you like McLaughlin & Santana`s "LOVE, DEVOTION, SURRENDER", do the same for Coltrane`s original version of "A Love Supreme"),.........assuming you haven`t already done so.............. 8^) ~Craig ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 12 Mar 2000 11:09:33 EST From: Bolinhed at aol dot com Subject: The Creator Has A Master Plan Steve Smith wrote: <<<<4. I'm really quite baffled that Ian Wallace (whose notes are otherwise exceptional and whose recent contribution to ET was laudable and enjoyable) seems to believe that "The Creator Has a Master Plan" is something Crim invented and should have developed further. It's clearly and correctly credited to Pharoah Sanders and the late Leon Thomas in the same CD booklet. You'd think that Fripp might have mentioned this when Ian turned in his notes. Still, for me, the fact that they played this tune at all makes KCCC9 perhaps the most valuable volume in the series yet.>>> Just hearing that KC performed this song and that it is on KCCC9 is the deciding factor in my joing the KCCC. For a stellar, mindblowing version of this song, check out the version on "Zephyr: Live," recorded in 1973 but released only a few years back from the Tommy Bolin Archives. I think that version is even better than Pharoah Saunders' original. Now I NEED to hear what KC did with it..... ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 12 Mar 2000 11:17:03 EST From: RedmondT at aol dot com Subject: Bass in GC In a message dated 03/12/2000 6:13:09 AM Eastern Standard Time, et at blackcat dot demon dot co dot uk writes: > Hello...hello...hello... > Yes that's right, I'm a bass player and I am hoping that I am not > exempt from the "guitar craft". (i.e. GR300 and GR700. Basically, Anything pre-GR1.) I am particulary interested about how to identify which guitar controllers (i.e guitars, not GK2 Pickup) can work with which synths. Please reply to me personally, preferrably in a ".txt" format or links to sites on the web. Hope to hear from some gear heads. MAR. 12/2000/16:37 ELEPHANT-TALKERS ASSEMBLED: Some background for my first bit of business: At the TORONTO venue for the "THRAK" tour, I chanced to set eyes upon a woman whom I have fantasised about ever since. I hope that she will read this and make contact with me. I was at the concession stand purchasing T-shirts and other items when I realised that I had to choose between buying either the "THRAK" tin or a long-sleeved "LARKS' TONGUES IN ASPIC"-emblazoned-down-the- left-sleeve jersey. Behind me and to my left, a statuesque brunette woman clad in a long black leather coat suggested that I purchase the tin (which I did). Concluding the transaction, I turned to thank her (and hopefully introduce myself), but alas and alack (I yet lack the lass!), she was gone. I am reasonably certain that this woman resides in CANADA - or did at that time - but I know not whether she was or is now married. If you are that woman, or if you know her, I would be most grate- ful if you would contact me directly via Email. So that you are not flying blind, I am the DRUMMER in the ongoing SHOPPERS' DRUG MART "ROCK BAND" campaign on television and radio. I could use some clos-re on this matter, "so any help you'd like to give would be most, er, um...well, helpful, really!" (For further evidence that I am who I say I am, visit the following website: www.angelfire.com/music/a1000m) My personal address is as follows: malcolmxerxes at hotmail dot com The second matter at hand is that I have been reading a lot about people's responses to KING CRIMSON COLLECTORS' CLUB RELEASE #9: LIVE AT SUMMIT STUDIOs". Given that I have been a clubmember since the third release, I cannot help but wonder whether my not yet having received the disc is the result of being near the end of the alphabet distribution-wise (God, I hope so!), or due to some other less-happy circumstance. In either case, I would be grateful for the disc and/or information leading to its whereabouts, as well as instructions you might want me to follow to prevent a similar future mishap. Thank you all for your time and attention in these matters. -MALCOLM XERXES (BATTERIE/PERCUSSIVES) malcolmxerxes at hotmail dot com "HEY, JUST BECAUSE I'M PARANOID DOESN'T MEAN THEY'RE NOT OUT TO GET ME!" ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 12 Mar 2020 16:39:6 -0600 From: "Jeff, God of Biscuits" Subject: ProjeKcts Box and other stuff Hello all "Turds"(Belewbeloid term): I've been on the list for the past year, so I can speak now. On Thursday, without the benefit of ever attending a live concert featuring anytime members of KC, I found the ProjeKcts box. I'm intrigued by these directions, even though I couldn't tell you whether they played the right 173/59 time signature correctly as I'm no musician, but a listener. I figure that Funk Figers aka Tony will return at some point, but we will have to say goodbye to Billy once and forever from the Kcrimson lineup. Other things to discuss: 1) Anybody here think that the 30 year ItCotCK has been chopped at the end too sharply?!? There's no fade out anymore 2) What will the next 30 year remasters sound like? (ItWoP, Lizard, Island) What will the packaging look like as opposed to the EG cd definitive editions (I have the "First three" picture disc box editions)? 3) Why can't I find lyric sheets (or pages) for the "Red" and "Discipline" albums? that is all.
