I like the recording (and the "I Talk to the Wind" cover) a lot. It is so different from the original, however, that it took me several moments of reflection before I comprehended what song it really was. By the way, Camper_Van_Chadborne also has great covers of "Reason to Believe" and the appropriately titled "Careful with that Axe Eugene," along with some great original tunes "Boy with the Coins," "Fayattenam," etc. roger hoover rhoover at watson dot ibm dot com [][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][] Date: Fri, 30 Oct 92 9:56:42 PST From: "John M. That version was by "Eugene Chadbourne with Camper Van Beethoven" on the album _Camper Van Chadbourne_, on which they also cover songs by Zappa, Floyd, and others, as well as doing many originals. An acquired taste. -- John [][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][] Date: Sat, 31 Oct 92 13:53:15 PST From: ee152fcy at sdcc15 dot UCSD dot EDU (Paolo Valladolid) Subject: U.K. and covers? Was the group UK, which would have been The League of Gentlemen had Fripp jo joined, known to have covered Crimson tunes? It would be intriguing to hear how Fripp's replacement, Allan Holdsworth, interpreted Fripp's lines. Cheers, Paolo [][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][] From: tm1cy1 Date: Tue, 3 Nov 92 15:32:39 GMT Subject: Fripp/Yes Hi all, This is Paul from Greenwich University, I have recently got into Crimson, I have been a YES fan for about a year now and have heard several mentions of Bill Bruford leaving YES to join from Larks Tongues onwards. I dunno if this is new news or not, but Fripp was given an offer to join Yes, in early 1970 when their first guitarist left them, which he of course turned down. Also Elton John was considered to do some of the vocals on Posiedon for 1000 pounds (I think), but Fripp decided against this in view of the style of music they were producing. I have only got In the Wake and Lark's at the moment this situ will soon be rectified (when the funds become available), I have some questions for you, I hope I am not going over old ground here. 1.As I understand it, Fripp taught Boz Burrel to play bass on Lizard, being a bass player I am interested to know what the quality of bass work is like and does it compare to that of Pete Giles and John Wetton? 2.The Eighties music, I haven't heard any but intend to purchase some, does it sound Crimson (in respect to their 70's stuff). It seems wierd that Fripp would let anyone else play guitar on an album, what are Belew's vocal qualities like? 3.I have seen both Beat and Three of a Perfect pair at a reasonable price and intend to buy one, which would be the better one to 'intorduce' me to the eighties Crimson. 4.Is there anyway I can obtain the lyrics for Posiedon and Larks as mine are both on tape format. 5.Are there any vid's available? I hope I am not sparking off a riff between members of the list, but I find Crimson a very very Interesting band and would like to know a lot more about them.
