Regarding the question about Trio, according to Fripp, Trio was the only time that "music" has ever just spontaneously occurred for him in Crimso. Evidently they were in the studio with the tape rolling and *poof* there it was. "Admirable restraint" refers to the fact that Bruford was smart enough not to play for those few minutes. Where do I begin? There have been numerous comments from Robert Fripp, Adrian Belew, as well as others involved regarding the re-formed Crimson. I'm sure that the aforementioned rehearsals are well on their way now. Cross your fingers. With regards to the 3 multiple-disc live sets - YES! (errr....you get what I mean). Sounds like a good deal to me. Both "I Advance Masked" and "Bewitched" were re-released, although I have seen some original copies of "Bewitched" around from time to time. "Masked" was released first time 'round only in Japan, so you will have a much harder time finding it. It's better to have it here domestically. Sounds fine, although my copy had the jewel case insert in upside down. With regards to Crimson songwriting processes - this is a great question. If you've heard Fripp's "Exposure" and Belew's last few solo albums, I believe you get a real good idea as to just who is responsible for what: Fripp: massively quick arpeggios, rock gamelan, brain ripping screech. Belew: counterpoint to Fripp. Elephant talk. Lyrics/vocals. Happy. Bruford: Crazy drumming and percussion. Rolling and tumbling poly-rhythm. Levin: Deep thrumming, enormous elephant bass, backup vocals, bass synth. In terms of the actual songs themselves, Belew had said regarding "Matte Kudasai" that he had done the majority of the writing himself and was almost afraid to show it to Fripp and the others. Then they "CRIMSONIZED" it. Belew did "Heartbeat" and "Matte.." and "Thela Hun Gingeet" (Heat in the Jungle) live on his last tour. The differences were very evident - more of a stright rock and roll feel to it all, not quite so syncopated and complicated. Some chords were changed to straight flatted fifths. Re: Guitar Player series of articles - great ending, yes, but largely due to responses from idiot fumble finger guitarists who probably only listen to a lot of "stooge rock" and can't get past his mammoth vocabulary. Once upon a time, on VH-1, I encountered a strange vision. It was Andy Summers strumming his trademark Tele and Robert Fripp standing next to him, Roland GR303 guitar in hand. The two were surrounded by pirouetting dancers. Fripp was gazing at the dancers around him in amusement and Summers merely looked at the camera, slightly annoyed. Is this video still available? Speaking of videos, since the emergence of the "Discipline" King Crimson almost coincided with the advent of MTV, did the band ever make videos, and if so, are they still available? Finally, what modifications were made to Fripp's Les Paul? The first issue is out now, and it looks good and shows promise. There 's an interesting interview with Jamie Muir, a short discography, interesting photographs, and a discussion of bootlegs. As you'll all know, fanzines are a labour of love, and Mark seeks your support to make THE BOOK OF SATURDAY a success. He's also anxious to trade interesting recordings with fellow KC enthusiasts. Order your copy of BOS now! And/or, just drop Mark a line to say hello. He's a Discipline reader (I snail-mail them to him!) so he knows what goes on around here. THE BOOK OF SATURDAY: Mark Pearman, 16 North Walls, Winchester, Hants SO23 8BD, United Kingdom. Single issues: 1.85 pounds (UK only), 2.50 pounds (rest of world). Right now, Mark regrets that he can only accept payment in UK funds (that's pounds sterling folks!).
