Re: Fripp tuning and Guitar Craft column in GP BILL BRUFORD INTERVIEW (at last!) [][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][] Following his excellent Adrian Belew interview, posted earlier in Discipline #37, I'm delighted to be able to present to you Anil Prasad's exclusive interview with Bill Bruford. It's a fascinating interview. I hope you'll enjoy it. I would ask you to respect Anil's remarks about exclusivity in his preamble. Thanks. -- Toby, your smiling moderator. Date: Wed, 8 Jul 92 1:02:31 EDT Hi All, The Bruford interview went as planned today. It was absolutely brilliant. Certainly the most enjoyable interview I've done. He's so articulate it's scary. I *never* get nervous before interviews anymore, NEVER, PERIOD. However, I nearly had a major heart attack before this interview. I got to sit through an entire sound check with Bruford staring at me with his icy eyes. The man is so intimidating it's uncanny. The interview I did doubled for print and radio, so we had to find a quiet place to do it. He proceeded to suggest his hotel room! We ended up driving out to his hotel and went up to his pad and away we went. No promotion people, no record company, no nothing! Just me and bruford in a hotel room for 1 hour!!!!! I still can't believe it... I'm still in awe.. I was visibly and audibly nervous through the whole interview, this NEVER happens to me!!!!! (did I say that already?) All through it, I kept thinking to myself "My god, I'm having a private conversation with Bill Bruford..." I'm still in shock (did I say that already?) Anyway, *LOTS* of fantastic stuff for you folks to look forward to, I'll post a transcript in the next week or so. I think you'll get a huge kick out of it. Not much crimson related stuff, except a rather nasty attack on Robert Fripp and a little swipe at Belew too! And you *WILL NEVER* believe the things he said about Yes in this thing... Well, I'm off to bed and then to montreal in the morning for another earthworks gig... till later folks. p.s. thanks to everyone that suggested questions, I used quite a few of them. ----------------------------------------------- Anil Prasad | P.O. Perhaps, but I think he is ignorant of people who have been playing mandolin and tenor guitar music for years in that tuning, working out many "chords and voicings", discovered a while ago. Some of the best chords I've heard played in that tuning were played by Jerry Thomassen as backup to American old-time fiddle tunes over twenty years ago and by contemporary Irish bouzouki (or octave mandolin) players. Not to mention all the mandolinists in the bluegrass/newgrass/acoustic swing world, which I decline to mention. -- John [][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][] From: wcsanil at ccs dot carleton dot ca (Anil Prasad) Date: Fri, 17 Jul 92 04:37:20 EDT Subject: BILL BRUFORD INTERVIEW (at last!)
