I reply: Sorry Jari, E to G is a minor 3rd. Fripp has said he doesn't like the sound of the major 3rd--that's probably due to his upbringing :-) ***** Bonus quiz: how many major 3rd's can you find in Crimso music? ***** But Jari was correct about the 6th string being too loose and the 1st string being too tight. If you listen to some of the GC tunes you can hear the 6th string buzzzzz. It was Trey Gunn from the Crafties and Sunday All Over the Place. There was a similar minitour of some Japanese dates back in April/May. Rumour has it in a somewhat reliable vein that the concerts have been bootlegged, which means that perhaps we'll get to hear them in a month or so. I'll let you know if I hear anything. I haven't checked the running times, 'though... if they really are close, I'll post here to that effect. No Pussyfooting is easily in my Desert Island Dozen Discs.... PS I have also found the Definitive Edition Remastered CDs to be better than the original CDs; however, it is a clarity issue; the instruments have better tone, etc. It is pretty similar to the original and remastered Doors CDs (and Rumours as well). This is a little bit of a progress report that might be of interest for the Discipline list.... I tried doing something with the Guitar Craft Standard tuning. I only have an inexpensive electro-acoustic guitar (definitely not the reccomended Ovation) and the top E (.011 guage Rotosound Country Gold) snapped before I got it up to tension, so I replaced it with a spare B string because that is all I had and that seemed to work. I remember reading somewhere (probably Discipline) that Fripp reccomends using a B string tensioned up to G as the first string, and I can see the logic of this, although I have reservations concerning the disparity of tension between the two edges of the neck. I couldn't really work out much in the way of useable chords without resorting to pencil and paper, which I have yet to do. The tuning is counter-intuitive for me, but probably a breeze for a violin player. How and when did Fripp arrive at this tuning - was it the influence of David Cross? IMHO Fripp's soloing style from the 'Red' incarnation of Crimson seems to be influenced by violin styles a little. He seems, to a certain extent, avoid the hackneyed little runs (e.g root, second, fourth, fifth) that are natural on more usual ordinary guitar tuning which are the main stays of blues (and thus rock) that would not necessarily fall under the fingers so obviously with a tuning based on fifths rather than fourths. Can anyone shed any light on when Fripp started using his tuning?
