He doesn't explain the logic in it - just mentions the pitches. Seems that the only way to find more about is to take a Guitar Craft Course led by Fripp or some other craftsperson... The tuning is C, G, D, A, E, G from low to high as mentioned. Intervals between adjacent strings from 2 to 6 are perfect fifths and between 1 and 2 the is a major third. It might be a compromise on trying to tune guitar to perfect fifths. If you'd tune guitar to all fifths the 6th string would be too floppy and 1st would be too tight. Well anyway Allan Holdsworth plays his SynthAxe quite often tuned to all fifths (it is easily possible with SynthAxe) and once said about the tuning (GP Jun 86) "... I also use fifths because I used to play a little bit of violin and I liked that fingering. It's really logical and gives you a phenomenally wide range. ... Fifths are not that good on chords unless you look at the tuning from the opposite point of view. [Ed. Note: A perfect fifth is the inversion of a perfect fourth.] There are lots of neat chords and voicings in that tuning waiting to be discovered, I'm sure." The Guitar Craft column was in Guitar Players between Sep 89 and Jan 91 with some breaks. Both B-sides, An Index Of Metals and Swastika Girls, sound just the same to me (I hear someone say 'Doesn't all ambient music!' :-). They also have about the same lenght of about 28 minutes when the fine discography in Discipline #43 gives 18'43 for Swastika Girls and 28'36 for An Index of Metals. My (No Pussyfooting) LP is E'G EGED 102 (Distribution PolyGram) (not mentioned in the Discography and made in Canada) and my Evening Star LP is island records HELP 22 printed in England if that helps anyone. Btw. Does anyone have any knowledge about E'G Records? Who is behind it? Why the name? Current status? Date: Thu, 25 Jun 92 16:17:21 GMT Greetings: After having decided on to go into Italy on my recent holiday, a friend returns with a poster *borrowed* from a billboard. It is a tour of rather small venues with David Sylvian and Robert Fripp. (Sorry I forget the tour name - it was "Trey ...." I think.) Does anyone have any information about the tour, or even a review if someone happened to go to the performance? Jari [][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][][] Date: Thu, 25 Jun 92 17:23:59 -0700 From: Academic Fraud Subject: Bootleg quality I have a long CD bootleg entitled 'Atmospheres,' which features the last concerts of King Crimson in 1974 and 1984. The sound quality is just as good as the regular release CD's, if not better, save the problem of a very small high frequency hum or hiss, above 12,000 hz. This is caused, most likely, by poor CD-quality, rather than poor recording conditions... Wetton sounds a little tired on some of his vocals, though the music jams, and Adrian really spiffs up the originally dead song 'discipline' by adding immense vocal inflection. Hard to listen to the original now... I got this CD at Round Sounds, in Redondo Beach (close to L.A.). They have a mail order address, as well (I'm not at home, so I'll send it in a few days or so), and got it for $24.99. All bootlegs are $24.99, and the owner can get about 20 of them. (sorry, the 2-cd set 'Arlington,' which is supposed to be of good quality as well, costs $45.) The store also has a good selection of other progressive bands such as Gentle Giant, VanDerGrafGenerator, and the new band Ezric Tentacles. -elba.
