(I wonder why nobody has posted on this yet.) *Very* recommended for everyone who loves Robert's previous soundscapes. Stylistically I'd say it's somewhere in between 'Blessing of Tears' and 'Radiophonics', with elements of both. Sometimes there are sudden changes opening up new horizons which are so beautiful they make my heart stop for a second. Despite being a guitarist myself, and familiar with loop devices and harmonizers, I often have no idea how he does this - I really wish I could sit beside him and watch how he does it. Speaking of loops: Musicians using loops should check out 'Looper's Delight', a web site and mailing list dedicated to looping music and techniques, at http://www.annihilist.com/loop/loop.html -Michael Peters ------------------------------ From: "Stephen P. Goodman" Subject: An Interesting Crimsoid Tidbit Date: Fri, 1 Nov 1996 01:48:27 -0800 I do PC contracting at a music publishing company; lately, the trend is to put your catalog in a database, with a nice front end on it, and either put it in CD-ROM form or an installable. This will of course be more efficient in getting music used in film, commercials, etc. Anyway! Lately, an item came to my attention, since I was asked to install it. BMG has sent out a FileMaker Pro file sample of their catalog to other publishers and, I suppose, other kinds of 'insiders'. After loading the program for the first time, what do you think was the first record displayed? The entry was of course truncated, but it read "Crimson King", and was credited to KC. Nice, huh? I didn't care that I was the only one in the room who got a charge out of it. Just thought you'd like to hear this one. (By the way, work is in completion stages on my own CD-ROM, "Book Of Days", the page for which is shamelessly signatured below.) I would like to get live footage of KC but can't seem to find any, anywhere. Can you help me??? I want to post a few questions to the Elephant Talk Digest, hoping that some of the subscribers might reply directly to me via email. Is this ok? If so, here are the questions. Is there a good review of the McDonald and Giles album somewhere? I got this on the Japanese cd reissue recently, and frankly have not been impressed. What are supposed to be the gems on this? I was told The Birdman suite thing, but, well, yawn.... I'm going to feature this album on the radio soon. Check out over the internet a live real audio discussion and playing of it at http://www.magic105fm.com/ on Sunday night, probably Nov 17th or 24th, for 30 minutes starting at 9PM CST. You can listen to it via RealAudio at this site. You can also download RealAudio from here. What else has Ian McDonald been doing in the long interim? I haven't found a discography for him. Was he later a founding member of Foreigner?! Is the YOUNG PERSON'S GUIDE TO KING CRIMSON cd reissue from 1990? stil in print or available from anywhere? Heck, can you even find the vinyl with the poster and book anymore? Did the cd come with the book and all the liner notes, packaging, etc? What would you consider to be the BEST performances of songs off THE GREAT DECEIVER box set? Please email reply to me with any and all answers! I sure appreciate it. JJW James J. Organization: http://www.bendnet.com Hey ETers, I noticed that Volume Three of the Soundscapes series is now entitled "That Which Passes," changed from "Soundbites" (which is now Volume Four). Anybody have any info on what these will sound like? Or why this sudden change? Also, kinda reminds me of "Nuages: that which passes, passes like clouds" off of TOAPP. Good to hear that the boys are writing again. So if your interested in them, you can find them at: http://www4.ncsu.edu/eos/users/a/aklikins/pub/thrak.html Not real sure of the copyright issues involved, but as far as im concerned, my work in public-domain. As for the origina design, just hope no one minds. The POV-Ray source for the files is also available. Enjoy.
