Excuse me for the rather trivial question I am about to ask. Does anyone have a clue what the series of numbers in the ThrakAttack (and i think Thrak has them too) inlay could mean (if they do have some absolute meaning). Sorry, i dont have my Crimson decoder ring handy. Perhaps the numbers were generated randomly, to characterize the spontenuity of the music on the disk. -chris ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 21 Oct 1996 21:37:59 +0200 (MET DST) From: stalker at bart dot nl (christian mogul) Subject: Fripp & Sylvian video Hi I don't have a LD player and didn't find anywhere the live in Japan video of these two gentlemen on VHS tape. Let me just say that the t-shirts really do look terrific - I have two, arriving only 3 days after I made my order. End of plug. We specialise in taking Web sites and using them as the basis for T shirts, mouse mats and so on. The designs are printed up on high quality materials in the U.S. and here in the U.K. We put something together and have it loaded at.... http://www.clearsite.com/shirts/samples Most people have specified that the design should appear on the back of the shirt with their personal e-mail appearing where where pocket would be on the front. The idea was that ET'ers might be able to spot each other at concerts! Anyway, we are really pleased with the results. An unforeseen consequence was that our original vinyl of Court of the Crimson King was dusted off, and we are now getting ourselves up to date with Thrak. Nice to rediscover one's favourites and be brought up to date! Could you leak a few words re "Steel Cathedrals", an 18 minutes track, Fripp playing? I'm trying to justify $40 for a Japanese rip-off... Also, has anyone seen the limited edition "Steel Cathedrals" video?? Also, someone was looking for "Weatherbox" - any luck? I won't mind getting a copy as well :) 2. CDNOW has Sylvian/Fripp's single "Jean the Birdman", featuring one Fripp's 7 minute soundscape, Dark Water, which to the best of my knowledge wasn't released elsewhere. Great stuff. Also one unreleased Sylvian's track. 3. I'd like to thank the guy who has mentioned Mark Wood a few hundred ET's ago. I'd like to do a rerun for newcomers: check out "Against the Grain", which features a good cover of Red, and another amazing piece called Sawdust, I believe. No guitars used except for bass, just Mark's crazy heavy metal custom VIOLINS. The other album of his is called "Voodoo Violince" and is also great. Does anyone know of his other recordings/collaborations? 4. Another reminder: should anyone wish or be forced to part with their "Lady or the Tiger" CD, please please contact me! This video is simply great - VROOM, THRAK, DINOSAUR are especially strong. And you can identify who is playing this or that - but you realize it actually doesn't matter - KC IS A BAND playing together. Watch and enjoy it ! ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 24 Oct 1996 14:05:12 +0200 From: Tefkros Symeonides Subject: Re: Insomnia In ET #313 Gregory Hindsley wrote: > I was recently reading Stephen King's "Insomnia" when I was greatly >suprised at what I read on page 92. I've been getting ET digest for about a month now. My original intent was to test out the water for at least another month or so before plunging in, but a recent post to the digest has pushed me in. A Stephen King/KC connection was mentioned. This is so kewl. King is obviously into music as many references are made to music and artists in his books. Mostly 60's stuff (he is of that age). The interesting thing is, I'm a recent Fripp/KC convert. Two things conspired to get me hooked - Robert Fripp's ideologies and the Robert Fripp String Quartet. Recently I have been spending most of my veg time reading Stephen King's the Regulators and listening to RFSQ. Sometimes I have to stop reading because the music grabs a hold of me - yet I can think of no finer way to spend an evening than to curl up with Stephen and Robert. This is truly perfect :) I'm thoroughly enjoying this list./marilyn ------------------------------ From: Balakrishnan at JWTDELHI dot CAIL dot SPRINTSMX dot ems dot vsnl dot net dot in Date: 25 Oct 96 10:46 GMT+0530 Subject: Between the iron gates of Fate Dear et tu(s), Thru a friend rajk at altagroup dot com, a cyberperson,I join this discourse on KC. While the music is rich and original, remember the violins ( Harris? ) in Moonchild etc..or the flutes in I talk to the Wind .... the lyrics were penned by a regular poet. Some info on his published/released works would be welcome as well as info abt literary influences upon his writing. Also info regarding versions (in albums/concerts) of KC tracks by other artistes ( e.g. Starless in Asia's live album "Asia Live in Moscow"). What I've loved abt KC is a strong, wistful melancholia and a dream-like quality in their tracks. I'm speaking abt In the Court..., Lark's Tongue, Red mostly. I'd appreciate knowing the list of tracks on Young Person's Guide to King Crimson. Also a query, is one of Jeff Beck's tracks on his Blow by Blow, an instrumental rendition of Epitaph from "IN the Court.." ? More in my next, am I glad that there's et ? And that the forces of good and evil are gathering in Derry to play out some drama that's going on in his mind. Call it Omen V: In the Court of the Crimson King." Hopefully Gregory has completed the book and now understands the reference. For a further clue, he and other interested readers might want to take a look at my anthology PRIME EVIL (1988), whose opening section -- also titled "In the Court of the Crimson King" -- introduces the Stephen King short story "The Night Flier."
