Is the "Original Master" version of ITCOTCK really worth buying if we already have the "30th anniversary edition"? Thanks ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 20 Aug 2006 06:20:19 -0400 From: drg55 Subject: King Crimson and the counter culture 69-74 Adding to what Peter Key said, as a signed up member of the counter culture back in those days, it was a bit like the modern terrorist, an organisation without an organisation by existing by the commitment of people to a common goal. Of course that goal was a little ideal and unrealistic, especially peace and love through drugs. (I gave them up years ago) But it was also a tremendous wave of creativity and each new album cut new territory, not just from King Crimson but generally. And that was what the counter culture was about, versus moronsville and deadly automaticity. King Crimson was there for people in the know, who had the sensitivity to perceive it. Their albums sales were up in the top ten internationally. What is mainstream culture and is it worth attaining, will the masses ever get behind truth? I'd encourage modern prog musicians to read the classics, religion, philosophy, mysticism and magic. There are plenty of booby traps and dead ends, but far worse is the man who never sets out on this journey. Art is life in its highest form.
