Remember that band (Gong) Bruford played in for 5 minutes sometime in the 1970's??? OK, it is a shameless Crimson reference to justify my submitting this to ET. I am just trying to help get the word out on what could be a spectacular weekend of fun and great music in a great city - AMSTERDAM!!!! As much as is possible the Trilogy Era Gong is reforming for the Gong Family Unconvention for three days only at the Melkweg in Amsterdam the 3rd, 4th, 5th November 2006. For full info go to http://www.planetgong.co.uk/ Confirmed music includes: Trilogy Band Gong - Daevid Allen, Tim Blake, Steve Hillage, Miquette Giraudy, Mike Howlett, Didier Malherbe, Gilli Smyth, Chris Taylor (the only non-trilogy band member as Pierre Moerlen unfortunately passed in 2005) Mothergong 2006 = Gilli Smyth and ??? for her unique take on the Gong multiverse, The Steve Hillage Band (yes! Hillage is picking up his guitar again for both Gong and his own material!) and also System 7 (Steve Hillage's and Miquette Giraudy's electronica exploarations), Acid Mothers Gong = Acid Mother Temple plus Daevid Allen and Gilli Smyth, Crystal Machine = Tim Blake and guest for synth space music, Here And Now = great band, Gong fans and collaborators - Floating Anarchy albums. Also: Hadouk, Eat Static, Kangaroo Moon, House Of Thandoy, Theo Travis, Daevid Unplugged, Glissando Guitar Ensemble, University Of Errors, Zorch, Cyndee Lee Rule, Thom The World Poet, and more artists being added between now and zen. Maybe this could be a seed for a future live performance models for King Crimson if traditional touring is no longer viable for whatever reasons? A cluster of dates in a single location enhanced with King Crimson family performances? I for one would travel to see a formation of King Crimson surrounded with performances from say Wetton, Cross, Earthworks, KTU, Belew, Levin, CGT? Please share this info with any you might think interested. The Gong site has a poster you can download and slap up somewhere. Thanks for tolerating the only vaguely related Crimson post. See you in AMSTERDAM?!?!?!?! mlk ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 5 Jun 2006 01:11:32 -0400 From: Mike Subject: Re: The Power To Believe: The Crimson coda? Fripp and Belew have been working on what would be called the building blocks for the next generation of King Crimson material, so The Power To Believe will not be KC's coda. Now will they ever tour again? I certainly hope so. When that day comes to pack it in, KC is the type of band that will definitely go out with a bang (or B"BOOM.....pardon the pun). :) Cheers, Mike http://community.webtv.net/thedukeofprunes/ALLTHINGSCRIM ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 08 Jun 2006 12:43:37 -0400 From: drg55 Subject: re Listen Now: SLOW MUSIC "LIVE AT THE CROC" Prog'opolis (http://www.thedividingline.com) played a movement from "Slow Music" last week, Murkie, if you were listening you might have caught it, personally I got up to get a snack, one day, I might get into it, perhaps a wet Saturday afternoon. I'm sure this is the situation for many fans and very few media outlets would be giving it air play. Try to look at the positives I would suggest. A common principle of marketing on the internet is that much is given away for free by many companies very successfully as it makes them known and a small percent of millions will pay, the others probably won't anyway. For examples Zone Alarm firewall; AVG antivirus; Ulead Photo Explorer. These examples should be given some thought as to whether it was necessary to take down the archive for the programme which played the entire cd. The archive would have expired after a week anyhow. Personally I think a quiet communication "please don't do this again, but thanks very much for all your support" would have been well and sufficient. Last year Mr Fripp made some bold comments about a producer, and then followed it up with a fairly humiliating apology. Personally I thought he had a point. As a writer I have been paid less than 1% of the times I have been published, and while small publications may not have the resources to pay commercial rates, they find it convenient to pay absolutely nothing to creative people without whom they would have nothing to offer. However internet radio is not such a proposition, it is like countless volunteer activities around the world without which we would be the poorer. Please give these people respect and cut them some slack. As it happens most of the presenters at the dividingline are musicians themselves. I have worked in human rights, law reform, and as a legal officer for an organisation. Let me suggest based on actual experience that it is ALWAYS better to seek to communicate directly with a party first before going to lawyers. For some who aren't cooperative then the legal route needs to be followed, but to go too hard first is a big mistake. I don't know the details of this matter and am just responding to: "The folks over at DGMLive and the Slow Music Project have asked that we kindly remove last Saturday's archived show featuring Slow Music "Live At The Croc" due to legal and copyright issues. In the spirit of friendship and cooperation we were more than happy to oblige". I'm not so keen on the phrase "due to legal and copyright issues", but perhaps I am over-reacting. Vince and Daisy are your friends Robert and I'm sure would be happy to oblige any personal approach. Especially if he would take time out to give a phone interview I am sure he would get anything he wanted, including free advertisements for any upcoming concerts, as has happened recently when Carl Palmer gave an interview to Rene at Progroots on thedividingline.com. Needless to say I have no connection with http://www.thedividingline.com or Prog'opolis besides a purely amicable relationship. I also met Adrian Belew when he gave concerts in Melbourne recently and he recorded a short greeting for Prog'opolis for me which I sent off to them and which I am sure is mutually beneficial when it is played. I did this for fun and because I love the music.
