Project 5?? Did I miss something?? ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 22 Apr 2006 10:16:27 -0700 (PDT) From: Raymond Raupers Subject: Are We KC Jan? Jan has exposed the nature of the disease shared by ET and KC. Jan starts a flame-post with a "sorry to say" intro, interludes with a snotty poseur complaint about cohesiveness, yet ends with a question "has he been smoking dope?" All without so much as returning to the supposedly original thought Jan pretended to sorryfully be motivated to post! Talk about incohesiveness! Someone should say it and I will. From the basement Raymond J Raupers Jr is sick and tired of waiting for King "Crimson" to return to the realm of Crimsonness! As an individual and not a filthy socialist, I do not construct my thoughts and sentences with the word "we". I am conscious, A is A, and the basement suits me fine. I have no mouse in my pocket and enjoy constructing verse in the first person. So are we KC? NO! KC fell asleep after leaving the Court! Adrian has been arrested by the miserable tight ass immobility of Robert and apparently craves an environment of cohesiveness, thereby failing to challenge Robert. Meanwhile new bands like OPETH are forging new ground. They celebrate the awakening generations of free thinking individuals. Alas KC (too lazy and conceited to indulge in lyrics Robert) drives the band into the bed of boredom. Worse yet the talent of Adrian Belew gets erroneously washed out like grout between fresh tile, surrendered to the hands of an oaf. Free masonry is dead. But Robert surely takes comfort in his posture, "I am so far above the basement." What Crimson King fears to visit the basement? A poseur King. Congratulations to Jan and all others that quelched their fear arising from the note struck in the post "Are we KC?" They care not to participate, they betray the call to study the nature and demise of ET. They betray the call, but they heard it. It takes courage and sweat to answer. Apparently between the basement and Robert's dining room is nothing, ...just empty space. Congratulations Jan you have your empty space and empty post. I share the original vision of a Crimson King. I'll share it from the basement if it pleases Robert. He can't take it from me. I am more Crimson than he. ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 22 Apr 2006 16:51:47 -0700 (PDT) From: Joe Bazile Subject: Tasty Morsals "If there is anything else that you folks know of that is Crimson related out there, please do feel me in. " -John Pace May I suggest EleKCtric if you don't already own it. The best era of KC, IMHO. Also on this same sight many of us were alarmed that KC was going to tour with TOOL. They have become a fav of mine as is Maynard's PERFECT CIRCLE. One final one: When I saw KC in 2004, the EleKCtric area, I wondered if I should pay the $40.00 for the shows memento souvenir. It has two soundscapes /frippertronics that are priceless, yes priceless, plus a couple of extremely awesome interviews. Sorry- finally, I promise, AFFIRMATION: IMAC from LOVE CANNOT BEAR, is one of the prettiest (IMHO)soundscapes / songs ranking up there with BOOK OF SATURDAYS, TRIO, LADY OF THE DANCING WATER, CADENCE AND CASCADE, MOONCHILD and MIDNIGHT BLUE, that also reemerges on this CD. The members of ZUM have been working in Guitar Craft for nearly a decade and have a knack for gorgeous and dynamic arrangements of works by Astor Piazzolla, the Beatles, and a wide range in between. Also on the program, there?s music from Bigtime, another international group who have worked in Guitar Craft, (they would have joined us live too, but for visa troubles), and more. There is also a link where you can listen to the whole show. - Robert ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 25 Apr 2006 05:29:14 -0700 (PDT) From: Dan Wasser Subject: Crim-related music Recently, I've purchased Tony Levin's "Resonator," Adrian's "Side Three," and Bruford's "World Drummers Ensemble," all of which I enjoy. XTC hasn't put out a studio album since Wasp Star (which I loved). Kate Bush's Aerial sucked (it's easy listening music ... the girl forgot how to rock). Zappa's dead. Freddie's dead (I refuse to call two out of four, Queen just like I refuse to call Townshend and Daltry, The Who). McCartney doesn't rock anymore either. Wierdly enough, I like Opeth's song "Deliverence" although I can't stand the vocals (if you can call 'em that). What new music should I listen to? Greetings fellow Krim-heads, I was reviewing Fripp log entry from a few years ago (from the ProjeKcts era) that was released in the notes of one of the KCCC releases by then, he was brainstorming about ProjeKcting and sharing some ideas to have current and former Krim members ProjeKcting. >From those thoghts I want to start the motion here to consider McDonald & Giles as the first ProjeKct ever, you have everything there, and even the bass player is a former Krim member, shall we consider McDonald & Giles as ProjKct 0? Also, Fripp/Belew is ProjeKct 6, but who is ProjeKct 5? Gunn/Mastelotto? I did not get that. Paulo H. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 28 Apr 2006 00:02:54 +1000 From: David Jenkins Subject: Belew my mind My first post! The impetus for breaking cover was experiencing an Adrian Belew concert this Saturday night past (22/4) here in Canberra (quick geography lesson - Canberra is the CAPITAL of Australia - repeat after me...) on his short east coast club tour. Unfortunately, it wasn't as well attended as it could, and should, have been. But even as a devotee of Crim, I only found out about it two days beforehand, so those that weren't as eagle-eyed or were away during the current term break would have easily missed the event. That would have been a cruel blow as it promises to be as close to seeing Crimson as we'll ever get in the Antipodes. And a lot closer in sound than I, for one, had actually expected, after not really knowing what to expect beforehand. As it was, a quietly enthusiastic band of followers turned out to see a truly stunning concert. Adrian played in trio format with a couple of Australian-based musicians, Al Slavik on bass and stick and John Prior on drums. Adrian later remarked that they had some three rehearsals together, and this was by my counting only their third gig, in which case the band had gelled into a remarkable, cohesive and powerful unit. Al Slavik, late of Austria, now living in Melbourne, was particularly impressive. He had ample opportunity to shine, yet was also a sympathetic support and foil for Adrian - he also has a couple of releases for those interested; see http://www.alslavik.com/home.html. Photos of one of Ade's Sydney gigs have also been posted at http://www.abc.net.au/triplej/gallery/adrian_belew_230406/ The sound was loud but crystal clear through a small but powerful set-up. My friend and I were seated some five metres from the stage. I also noticed a smattering of women, an unexpected phenomenon in light of past postings re Crim. Or is Ade an unlikely sex symbol? Speaking of my friend (who originally propelled me into Crim with Larks' Tongues, via LT2), he happens to own a personally-obtained autographed copy of an l.p. called Exposure by an associate of Adrian's, a Mr Robert Fripp, from an in-store appearance in New York at the time of its release. Would this be of any value? I must confess to not being as familiar with Ade's solo material as I would like - but there are never enough dollars to satisfy every musical desire - so I'm not too sure of the exact make-up of the set list. I know there were a few things from Side One (eg Ampersand), Big Electric Cat from long ago, a solo piece from Side Three which beautifully interpolated George Harrison's Within You, Without You and a selection of Crim: Dinosaur, Three of a Perfect Pair and a killer closing trio with Al on stick - Frame by Frame, Thela Hun Gingeet (complete with backing tape talking parts) and Elephant Talk. Al said later he was originally inspired to pick up the stick by the sound of Tony Levin on Peter Gabriel's first live album (cue: I Don't Remember). Anyway, if you closed your eyes, you would have been flat out not believing it was Tony playing before us. What of Ade? His playing was sizzling, controlled, ferocious, delicate, wild, disciplined, humorous and deadly serious. A masterclass and a joy. Even though it is in many ways a ridiculous comparison, I enjoyed the concert somewhat more than the Rolling Stones some ten days previously in Sydney (even though they played well). Sure, I shook my hips more at the Stones, but I came out of Ade's performance mentally stimulated: invigorated yet satisfied, marvelling at the wonder of the unknown and unexpected yet wanting more of the same. I would have liked to follow him 300 kilometres up the Hume Highway to Sydney for the following night's performance but, alas, responsibilities and finances prevented me. There may have been others that did so. One fellow at the Canberra show confessed/boasted of owning every album by anyone who's ever been in Crimson. Ah, the burden of the completist, a monkey I've managed to claw from my own back. On wider matters, don't despair fellow Crim-heads, I heard from the source that there is every chance of another drink from that particular well. Though I couldn't help but wonder if the spirit of Fripp looks on disapprovingly at an Ade concert as he happily signs merchandise and poses for photos. Goodness, I even found myself wishing that I'd had a recording device on the night! This is intended for tracks that contain King Crimson alumni, but NOT for King Crimson itself. Give it a try... and help me to expand the station by tagging anything that I haven't already found. ------------------------------ End of Elephant Talk Digest #1228 *********************************
