I see there is a 2005 Red re-issue - as I have the circa 2000 "Red: 30th Anniversary Editions [ORIGINAL RECORDING REISSUED] [ORIGINAL RECORDING REMASTERED] ", I am wondering what improvements the 2005 release brings. Is there a site/page with specific re-issue info? Finally, do you know if Fripp et al have plans to bring the KC catalog to SACD? All the best, Stan Powers Lancaster CA ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 31 Mar 2006 15:52:40 -0500 From: jchasin Subject: Burning Questions I was thrilled to read more about the continued adventures of Norbert Fragg, who's career, I've noticed, bears an eerie parallel resemblance to our own Bobby Fripp. Some questions I'd like to ask Mr. Fragg: 1. What is your favorite flavor ice cream? 2. Paper or plastic? 3. Do you agree that songs are for people who don't have the atention span for instrumentals? 4. Do Brits actually like the taste of tea, of is it the pastries and sandwiches associated with taking tea that makes tea so popular? One suspects it must be the latter. 5. What are the chances of hearing the triple duo line-up again? I loved the effect when you hooked up a second pair of speakers; one duo came from the left channel of speakers A, one from the right channel, and one from the second set of speakers only. Divine! I could go on and on, but that seems sufficient for now. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 31 Mar 2006 15:45:57 -0300 From: Roberto Lestinge Subject: Malpertuis Has anyone seen a movie from 1971, with Orson Welles called Malpertuis? There's a scene with an excerpt of "Side 2" from In the Wake of Poseidon that lasts a good while, and if not enough a take from Pink Floyd's Atom Heart Mother...I just wonder if it's legal and tender... Some time ago I managed to purchase a 3 disc box: Special Limited Edition of DS&RF : the Road to Graceland, containing the "the First Day" CD, "Damage" CD and the Live in Japan DVD (Nakano, 26-10-1993). The 3 discs are packed in a beautiful box, but all seems to be pirate discs, no references are made to any record company. The CDs are just copies of the originals but the DVD seems to be a perfect copy of a laser disc. Sound and images are superb and contains very nice shots of Robert playing one of his most beautiful solos (Darshan !). I wonder why DS-RF self don't produce/sell this remarkable filmed concert as DVD. If some pirates can do it? Now: still waiting upon the new Exposure and the new KC; with Mel, I hope. This would give KC again a new sound! About the DGM Live Downloads: I prefer my music as something I can hold in my hand (a real well manufactured CD-DVD-LP) instead of something I have to produce myself. Yes, I'm lazy ! Greetings to you all, Serge www.sergegirard.be ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 01 Apr 2006 16:29:12 -0500 From: Chris Inguanta Subject: XM satellite radio More on XM satellite radio. Music Lab is the station that plays KC, Zappa, Old Genesis, etc - but they are going to change it to online only as of 4/15/2006. How sad. Where else could you hear Prince Rupert in its entirety? I am going to cancel my subscription if they go ahead with this plan. I enjoyed listening to Music Lab in my home and my car. Online Music Lab can't cut it. I have e-mailed my complaint. We will see what happens. As always, it's probably about money. Krell PS This is my first post. I hope it works!!!!! ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 01 Apr 2006 23:29:25 +0200 From: Carsten Collatz Subject: King Crimson in literature, Porcupine Tree In the last ET, Emory pointed out that King Crimson was mentioned in Murakami. I just finished to read Ingo Schulze's "Neue Leben" (New Lives), an interesting letter novel on how lives of people from East Germany changed after the fall of the wall and the reunification. On page 364 there is a short but fitting mention of King Crimson: before the fall of the wall, one guy being a fan of David Bowie was bragging with his knowledge of Western Pop Culture, and his counterpart was trying to find out what kind of music King Crimson would make. There is only this one mention of KC, but the book is a very good read for everyone interested in what the change of culture meant to East Germans, although the format, letters with partly verbose annotations of the "editor" is sometimes a nuisance. I am happy to see more life coming back to ET - but have to admit that I was quiet and even less reading ET myself due to growing responsibilities at work and in the family, as is probably true for many of us ET readers. Of the new albums I heard recently I want to point out Porcupine Tree's Deadwing - I like very much the power of the title song, and the melancholy of "Lazarus" and "Arriving somewhere but not here". Cheers, Carsten Collatz, Berlin, Germany ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 3 Apr 2006 09:24:24 +0200 From: Richard Rees-Jones Subject: Re: Exposure Re-release Stuart Kirkham wrote: "I am certainly looking forward to the impending re-release of Exposure. I was wondering, however, what the vinyl mini-LP was about? What is this exactly?" It's simply the two CDs packaged in a cardboard sleeve, to make it look like a miniature LP. No vinyl! Here's the link to that article http://www.artscalendar.co.nz/article/1713/ Anyone out there know if this is actually true? ADRIAN BELEW LIVE IN AUSTRALIA Hello fellow ETer's. Here's some great news. Adrian Belew appears to have a gig on the 21st of April at Canterbury Hurlstone Park RSL Club. The address is 20 -26 Canterbury Road, Hurlstone Park -"AUSTRALIA" Tel: 9559 0000 The blurb is: Adrian Belew Rock Instrumentalist from the USA The "stunt guitarist" who has worked for Zappa, Talking Heads, Nine Inch Nails and David Bowie. Totally amazed. I've wanted to see even a single member of King Crimson full stop appear here in Australia for a very long time. I'll certainly do a review write up when I've seen the show, talk, whatever it might be that Adrian has planned for the evening. Until then, it's only talk, Sean. ------------------------------ End of Elephant Talk Digest #1225 *********************************
