A memorial was held Saturday September 24, 2005 at Trinity Anglican Church and his funeral occured Saturday, October 22, 2005; 11:00am at Ward Chapel & Funeral Home in Brampton, Ontario. He was laid to rest at the Meadowvale Cemetary. Many of the details leading up to his passing have been withheld for various reasons include respect to others involved. Unfortunately the blunt and context free details which were released have bloomed into full-scale speculative fiction on some boards so we caution anyone against taking anything they read about this at face value. But in the end it doesn't matter, a series of tragedies all around have occurred and we've lost a very good friend." Many here no doubt remember Malcolm as being a long-term reader and contributor to Elephant Talk. Various bootleggers had suggested that there was no way he could know they were taping, and he suggested otherwise. The proposal left was that he must have "Preternatural sensitivities", although it was also possible (although not discussed at the time) that he could simply see them taping, for example. You can see an awful lot from the stage, especially if you don't have the lights in your eyes. In this instance, I think James Randi's stash remains safe. Simply controlling the experiment would be quite a challenge: someone would probably try to boot it ... ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 29 Nov 2005 15:30:37 -0800 From: webmaster at projekction dot net Subject: Exclusive Extract from Boz Burrell Interview Hello! For those of you who aren't regular visitors to ProjeKction, I thought you might be interested in an interview we are currently running. A writer named Bill Murphy managed to gain an interview with the elusive Boz Burrell in the early 1990s for an aborted King Crimson biography. The biography never came to light, but Bill has graciously posted an extract of the interview on the ProjeKction website. For more about Bill Murphy and his King Crimson biography, visit: http://www.purplecrayondirect.com/blog.shtml For the extract of the Boz Burrell interview, visit: http://www.projekction.net/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=2695 Hope you enjoy it! Darren webmaster @ projeKction dot net ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 02 Dec 2005 08:56:42 +0000 From: Keith Collyer Subject: Preterthingies again In the light of Ryan Tassone's post: > Robert has often spoke about certain abilities he claims to have, which he > has called "preternatural sensitivities." I find it ironic that so often in Crim history Robert has clearly misunderstood the motivations and sensitivities of other members. And they him, of course, but he is the one who claims the sensitivities. I suspect that RF's comment is about some form of supernatural ability, not emotional sensitivity, but most people who claim the former also claim the latter. Having said that, I would find it hard to conceive of a world without KC, and KC without RF is simply unthinkable. So I for one am willing to more than tolerate his world-view. I would be very happy if you could explain this to me. In Australia in the 70's a lot of covers were changed to lower costs. For examples the cover of Fairport Convention Unhalfbricking was just black with white lettering. No great picture of the back garden with Sandy Denny's Mom and Dad. For my money, he has the best tone (in terms of both signal processing and technique) of any touchstyle player today. Nick ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 27 Nov 2005 06:30:29 -0500 From: Jacob Anderson Subject: XM radio Fine Tuning Channel I've been enjoying XM radio in my workshop. On Channel 76 "Fine Tuning", KC and related artists are played daily. I've heard KC, Eno, John Wetton, CGT, Peter Gabriel, Yes, early Genesis and more. Recently, XM channels have been added to the lineup on DirecTV satellite service, too. This is not an ad for XM, just a heads up from a pleasantly surprised Krimhead. Nine Horses Snow Borne Sorrow 10. Crimson Jazz Trio King Crimson Songbook Vol. 1 27. Cross, David Closer than Skin 28. Emerson Lake & Palmer Beyond the Beginning 30. Emerson Lake & Powell Live in Concert 31. Van der Graaf Generator H to He Who Am the Only One 35. King Crimson 21st Century Guide To King Crimson (Volume Two 1981-2003) 37. Emerson Lake & Palmer Emerson, Lake and Palmer (Japanese RM/mini-LP) 38. Emerson Lake & Palmer Brain Salad Surgery (Japanese RM/mini-LP)(K2HD) 44. Emerson Lake & Palmer Welcome Back My Friends JPN LP Sleeve 45. Fripp, Robert Love Cannot Bear Nine Horses/Snow Borne Sorrow is the latest effort from David Sylvian. Definitely worthy of it's #1 ranking! I have to make a personal comment on Robert Fripp's Love Cannot Bear. I've always had an intellectual appreciation for Fripp's soundscapes CD's. But to be honest, they've not really been played often. But Love Cannot Bear is different. For me, this is the best recording Fripp has done in this genre since his and Eno's Evening Star (one of my all time favorite ambient recordings). I really have to give it a strong recommendation! It's showing at #45 on our October charts was based on pre-orders. Now that it's been released, sales have been stronger. And I anticipate a higher position for November! [IsawTreyperfomthis,onStick.--Toby] Frank ##### I have the VHS of RFSQ Live in Japan, the video campanion to the cd. It is a different day of the same tour. It shows Trey playing Chromatic Fantasy. It's the same tone and overall phrasing as the cd, so I'm going to speculate that he was the only one playing it on that tour and it's most likely him on the cd. I wish I had a DVD of it so I could throw a snippet online for you to see it. -- Nick http://www.izap.com/~pinnacle therhythmex: AIM, Jabber, and Yahoo Messenger ID "1. Some of the comments are a little off-beat, but they reflect my first impressions on hearing the album: - - - Totem takes the language of the ProjeKcts and writes a best-selling novel! This is by far the best (non) Crimson album I've heard in years, (and contains some of the best stick/pad/loop work from Pat to date, at least in my experience). In summary, this is a young, horny, (and truly progressive) kING cRIMSON! ;-) Track 1 (Flinch) - A powerful, and natural opener. Hits you in the face, trips you up repeatedly, and yet is instantly compelling. "A junkie-moth to a light bulb". Track 2 (Up, Down, Forward And Return) is one of the best tracks I've heard this year - "Kraftwerk meets Crimson in a dingy alley, whilst Bibbiboo takes seedy Polaroids". My favourite piece on the album. Track 3 (Mouth Piece) = Photek with guitars ;-) Nice. Track 4 (Totem) is one of the most CENTROZOON-like pieces. I particularly love the blasts of rusty-noise (guitar?) that punctuate the squelchy glam-beat. Track 5 (A Test Of Faith) - "Mommy, I can see you..." David Sylvian speaks from 'the other side', via Brian Eno's TV set. Track 6 (The Morning Tide Washes Away) - "A Speak & Spell machine laments in post-Earth paradise". Traces of Laurie Anderson in this one, which is no bad thing... Renee's vocals towards the end are positively gorgeous! Track 7 (Hands) - Great juxtaposition of 'world beats' and 'funky drummer' over a carpet of Digitalis-era soundscapes. Tracks 8 - 10 - Still getting to grips with the last three titles... All v-good, but less instant than the proceeding tracks. Kiss The Earth is the stand-out though, and would ideally be the closer, for me. The production is superb - probably your most accomplished to date, and incorporates some welcome 'grit' to the proceedings. A perfect companion piece to the relative sheen of Never Trust The Way You Are. - - - So there you have it. My advice to you, dear web-reader, is to "buy it"... now! ;-) Regards, Lee Fletcher ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 1 Jan 2006 14:44:20 -0800 From: MATTHEW LEHMAN Subject: Sylvian/Fripp DVD Does any ET readers know if there are plans to release the Sylvian Fripp live show from Japan '93 to DVD? It was officially only released to Laser Disc. I've seen what appear to be 3-disc set bootlegs of the First Day, Damage and Live in Japan DVD on offer at Ebay. I'd like to a DVD of this great show but want to get the money into the right hands. Any info would be nice. Happy New Year to all!
