[ We don't include attachments in ET, so if you're interested, please visit www.nstweekend.co.nr for full details --Toby ] I would be grateful if you could include the information within the news section of your website. As you will probably know GC related events are rare if non existent in the UK, so this is a rare event. Add to this the fact that the events will not take place in London but 200 miles away in the beautiful historic Victorian Village of Saltaire in Yorkshire and it can be seen that this event is unique! website urls: www.nstweekend.co.nr www.guitarcraft.com email: nstweekend at yahoo dot co dot uk Thanks in advance Anthony Kneeshaw. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 5 May 2005 07:33:20 +0100 From: Gareth N Gadd Subject: Franz Ferdinand I was listening to Franz Ferdinand's "The Dark of the Matinee" - the tune of the lyrics sounds awfully similar to KC's "The Night Watch". You have to get about 2 minutes into Night watch and about 20 seconds into "The Dark..." to catch the similarity..... If no-one mentioned this King Crimson Critical Review DVD on ET, I would never have known about it. I'm guessing others here would have been oblivious of it, as well. But now, with all the hoo-ha surrounding it, and being the focus of two Fripp postings to ET in two weeks (after at least five years of disengagement) who isn't curious to see what it's all about? David Kirkdorffer ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 03 May 2005 16:02:47 +0200 From: Wiebke_und_Jorg Subject: variations on "photography at concerts" Hello, I just listened to a CD of John Zorn and right at the start of the recording, I burst into laughing when he made clear his point of view regarding photography at concerts (an issue somehow discussed frequently when it comes to... complaining about Robert Fripp - ). Obviously very annoyed, Zorn interrupts the band announcements with this statement: "... and we are not going to play ONE NOTE of music until everyone of these fffffotographic LEECHES get the fuck away from the stage, goodbye" (burst of applause) "Everyone of you! Get the fuck outta here, goodbye! Not one fucking note - GO! - Someone say it in Polish..." (to translator:) "Can you say >get the FUCK out Subject: King Crimson Influences Hello Just listened to the excellent Coldplay Parachutes album from 2000. Has anyone else noticed that track 8, a song called High Speed contains moments where the bass line sounds exactly like Catfood from In The Wake Of Poseidon. Could Chris Martin be a secret Crimhead? Also, have Radiohead ever admitted that King Crimson or Robert Fripp are an influence on their recorded work. Just listen to the tracks... Just, My Iron Lung, Airbag and Myxomatosis. On the last album 'Hail To The Thief' on the song Where I End and You Begin it's as if Mr Fripp is actually playing frippertronics from the early eighties. Are there many other recognised new bands who are influenced by King Crimson? I've seen the Pink Floyd ones,... sort of interesting. So is this really coming out andif so what footage will it actually have? -Jordan ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 14 May 2005 20:35:57 +1000 From: Ronald Johnson Subject: Is there a catalogue KC site where one can buy cd's? Hi, Ive only got one KC cd - Larks Toungues in Aspic, and Id like to buy more KC cd's, the actual albums especialy the early ones from 69 to 74. Is there any site dedicated for King Crimson cd sales? Hi English is not my mother tongue, so please bear with me.. I am new to ET (not KC though) and I have some questions to ask those of you who are experts. I hope some you can find the time to answer me ! You must forgive me if some of the questions are "..the usual ones from a beginner" ! I went through the extensive FAQ, but found answers for these questions: 1) Has RF ever explained why so few old songs (very old) have not been played for years ? I imagine that he isn`t interested in the past (?), but maybe he has commented on this subject ? 2) Several of my friends (most of them knowing a lot about music) have said/thought/felt that KC is "interesting" music, but without any real "emotional" substance. It leaves you - as they say - very impressed, but not affected. What is your take on this ? Is there a truth in it ? Or is the emotional essence of KC just so strange and unusual, that a casual listener wont notice it ? Has RF ever said anything about this issue ? 3) My fave line-up is.....No, just kidding ! Does any of you know if RF was ever asked to play on Sylvians tours ? (aside Raod to Graceland, of course !). I have always found it strange that DS picked David Thorn as lead-guitarist for the 1988 tour. I mean, RF has a much wider range in terms of style, sound and such. Thorn is great, sure, but he seems to focus on one way of playing - all the time. Can anyone help me with some thoughts/ ideas...maybe even knowledge ? 4) I understand from the FQA that RF has only written one or two words for KC through the years. RF seems very bright, very eloquent and so, so I wonder why he never tried to write some more. And... has he ever talked about singing ? Most players/composers try out their singing abilities once or twice during their career, but I never heard about RF singing as much as a backing-line ! Any info on that ? Well, perhaps he considers his guitar as his voice... I know my questions may seem childish, but it is only now that the history and the personal of KC has started to be of interest to me. So, I hope someone bothers to answer a "stupid", but VERY interested beginner ! Thank you in advance.
