According to our vision, it must unite characteristic features of all Crimson King's incarnations. We'll be glad to consider any ideas and proposals, and especially - artistic solutions. You are welcome. He and I are now doing duet Crafty acoustic guitar work (I put down my 6 string fretless bass and retuned my LoPrinzi acoustic guitar to learn New Standard Tuning!) We are knee deep in Eye of the Needle plus many new originals. So, anyway, ET has been not only a source on entertainment re: the boyz but also a vehicle for meeting in creative vortices allowing for the expansion of said endeavors. Highly recommended. We only live once that we can remember, so do it now. And smile while you twitch. >------------------------------ > >Date: Sun, 24 Apr 2005 22:47:21 -0400 >From: dbchetkin >Subject: Seeking Southern Calif. Sorry if this is a bit off-track, but I just wanted to tell everyone that I bought an album for 33.99 from that rather good shop on London's Berwick Street, simply because, as a socialist, the title "La 1919: Giorni Felici" naturally appealed to me, and because at that price there wasn't anything to lose. The cover artwork is horrible, but when I opened it up and saw that on the inside was "a special thank you" to their influences, including Frisell, Bowie, Sylvian, Zappa, etc, I started to get excited. It's in Italian, by a couple of blokes I've never heard of called Piedro Chianura and Luciano Margorani. I mention it because I'm sure that other Crim enthusiasts will really like it. It's got some Belew-style guitar solos, some ProjeKct Three-type drum loops, some "Lizard"-style brass/woodwind accompaniments, and some sublimely weird chord progressions. If you want something halfway between the modern incarnation of Crimson and the Faust of "Faust IV", I truly recommend it. Who are these people? ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 29 Apr 2005 22:03:14 -0400 From: R. Eric Young Subject: Starless 6th & 8th notes Hi Friends. I have an interesting question, never asked nor seemingly ever discussed, and I am quite interested in knowing if any other KC fan has wondered this. Why is it that the live recordings of "Starless" have David Cross playing the sixth and eighth notes of that gorgeous, familiar 14-note Fripp theme (played on guitar on the studio version) descend to an A flat rather then Fripp's inclining B natural note? I do not know that much about theory, none in fact, and am not professing to be some wizard or know-it-all. Still, this fabulous theme, so Frippian, is almost wrecked for me every time I hear Cross play it his way instead, at the opening of the song. Even at the end of these many live recordings of "Starless" Robert goes UP to that sweet semitone bend, up B flat to B and back,20 so Fripp-like, where David goes instead down. Two slightly different versions of the same theme in one song? I don't get it, perhaps because I know absolutely nothing of violin tuning and whether this little bendy effect is too difficult to pull off or just what. Still, somehow the essence is, well, not 'lost', but not the same either. Anybody else ever wondered this? Just asking. Barely controlling myself waiting for the June 15 Soundscape show!!! A number of the > releases from the KC have been close to unlistenable in quality. and on the DGM web site, they are assessed for audio quality. An assessment that is fairly honest. The issue with the Classic Rock stuff is not with the audio / visual quality, in the main, but with the fact that you actually don't get much music - extracts are limited to the snippets that are allowed under copyright law. The rest is generally filled by interviews with people who often have no more involvement than any other fan. There are exceptions. The Van der Graaf Generator DVD is a complete performance of the Godbluff album, with live studio film of Plague of Lighthouse Keepers (without RF's guitar, of course) and Theme One. As such, it is worth having and seems to have at least tacit approval of Peter Hammill. Other releases are less clear from the perspective of permissions. And the "Inside" series has been getting more flack than most. > Then it all becomes clear - > >> Sid Smith writes: >> >> For several months DGM has been undertaking research on producing a >> compilation of archive video footage of the band in all its >> incarnations. > > Ah. Right. Now I see. Don't buy *his* dodgy gear. Buy ours instead. But at least it will be more than snippets. -- Cheers KeithC ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 01 May 2005 18:07:35 +0200 From: Wiebke_und_Jorg Subject: Adrian Belew about KC plans Hello, I didn't read ET very frequently during the current months, so I don't know ... maybe rumors like the following one are already circulating ;o) Following is a short excerpt from an interview Adrian Belew did for the german jazz mag "JAZZthetik" (issue 05/05, pages 66-67), basically talking about his solo projects - but also about King Crimson. Please note: I translated it from german back to english again, so this is definitely NOT exactly what AB said word for word, but I'll try my best: "In spring, Robert will join me in my studio for a first writing session. I don't know what's on his mind, but the vital thing about KC is that there's never ever conceptual stagnation. Hence the long pauses. We return when we have something to say. Tony Levin's back in the band, and I'm very happy about that. We'll try out new material, but with KC it all takes its time. All in all I guess it's at least one and a half years, before we have the new album finished and are ready to go on tour again." (again: NOT Belew's exact words, but a translation from german!) Jrg PS: To make it complete, this is the german original version: "Noch im Fr=FChjahr kommt Robert in mein Studio f=FCr eine erste Writing Session. Did Classic Rock pay him after all? Could the DVD contain more concert footage than previously thought? If not, than I for one am not interested. I would rather play the waiting game for the DGM DVD. I'm not in the market for clips. ------------------------------ End of Elephant Talk Digest #1207 *********************************
