Why not try other tunings as well, though, as a more experimental thing? This is something you might not dedicate your best guitar to, and just use for a few compositions. For example, go the opposite direction and tune the whole thing to minor thirds. This way you could produce dense "cluster" chords, full of seconds and other small intervals. This is what I think I'll try next chance I get. Or use the same intervals from the OST, but at different octaves: 1.) E - old 6th string 2.) B - old 5th string, up a step 3.) G - unchanged 4.) D - unchanged 5.) A - old 2nd string, down a step 6.) E - old 1st string This way you can jump right in with your old familiar licks and chords, and they'll still come out musically, but with unexpected octave shifts (the interval between 3 and 4 is the only one not inverted). And there are some fifths in there! :) Separate topic (let me know if you want these sent separately in the future): a few issues ago someone was asking about the embryonic lyrics from in live versions of Starless. I believe he left out or misheard the line: "Win your bets and your shirt you lose". Anyway, long-time Crimhead here, n00b to the newsletter (hello); I notice a ton of subject matter is officially off-limits for being beat into the ground in the past, but I'm hoping there might be *some* leniency on that as time goes on, because I regret missing out on some of those conversations (apart from "who sucks/what rules"). -Keith ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 15 Apr 2005 08:19:40 -0700 (PDT) From: CM Subject: KCCC # 26 and Damage for sale Greetings, ETers. It addresses a valuable & useful area of popular music > studies; but in a cheap, nasty & cynical fashion that exploits everyone & > scams the artists, the music & the fans. His beef with this issue is that it 'scams the artists, the music & the fans'. I find this a peculiar point of view coming from someone who has made part of his living by selling bootleg quality versions of King Crimson concerts, only legitimising is by calling it a 'Collectors Club' in the hope that the die-hards will fall for it. A number of the releases from the KC have been close to unlistenable in quality. I suppose no one is compelling any of us to buy into the KCCC, but then again no one is compelling anyone to buy from the 'Inside The Music' series either. I have an acceptable LTIA pt. 1 VHS recorded from some TV program years ago. I recently purchased a copy of 'Rock goes To College' featuring Bill Bruford's band circa 1979. The quality isn't the best, but the performances are very good. Another reason I purchased the DVD was for the bonus features. Some are as follows... KC 1973 doing LTIA pt 1 (with Jamie Muir) An ad for LTIA which is like a movie ad. Very cool and they are playing LTIA pt. 2. and there is a 12 minute version of Easy Money from 1973 or 1974. Now,obviously this video footage exists, and I hate to buy bootlegs...but it is better than nothing. It also something the normal channels are either unable or unwilling to provide. An example of such a song-album download is available at this link: http://www.mp3search.ru/album.html?id=10485 I know, from reading the online journal entries of Robert Fripp, that he has already confronted some Russian illegal download operation. In any event, it appears as though this particular website that I found (while searching for critics' reviews of the "Lizard" album) has not been shutdown..... As a matter of fact, they are profiting from what appears to be illegal pricing, at least in terms of the US dollar. The pricing is $0.10 per song, or a discount price of $0.54+ for an entire album. Is there anything that can be (or has been) done about this?
