The Ovation Legend fit many preferences such as having a shallow body and access to frets above the 12th. I have a guitar made by Ted Thompson in Vancouver. Look at what the CGT have played. Then again, Robert has mentioned in his diary that he thought a guitar made by someone in South America was superb ... ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 25 Feb 2005 14:38:12 -0500 From: Carlos Daniel Schroder Subject: about fripp and eno on the new yorker there's an intersting article - "personal history - the beards" by jonathan lethem in thefebruary 28, 2005 issue of the new yorker. it is a series of commentaries about his relationship to different musical pieces and periods. the first one in the series is a response to fripp & eno's "no pussyfooting." enjoy. c.s. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 07 Feb 2005 13:28:02 -0500 From: Scott Parks Subject: King Crimson Collection For Sale Hello All, I have decided to sell my entire King Crimson (and related) collection as I rarely listen to the band any more and could use the money (and the space) for other interests. Many of us would pay dearly for lectures on theory, practice exercises, and close up shots of fingering and picking. Maybe behind the scenes video of you at work during recording sessions and the like.<< I've never taken any guitar craft courses, but having read about them and having seen the CGT play on numerous occasions, I would have to say that one of the fundamental aspects of GC is getting the students to learn to play with other people. The circul WSK ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 11 Feb 2005 18:45:14 -0600 From: Kade Subject: In support of Robert Fripp I for one support Fripp's decision to discontinue touring in the "normal" fashion. How terribly disappointing and tragic it must be to feel more often than not that your performance is underminded by those that claim to be in support of you and your art. -Kade "The job of the artist is to chase away the ugly." -Bono ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 10 Feb 2005 21:14:05 -0600 From: Alan Atwood Subject: Mystery Girl I'm sure this question has been answered but who is the pretty blonde girl in the famous 60's early 70's, B&W King Crimson photo? She is situated on the left side of the photo and looks like Nico. Alan Katy, Texas ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 11 Feb 2005 11:36:22 -0500 From: Dan Bailey Subject: Ovation Legend 1867 No Longer...... Wade, I was also trying to find a 'black' Ovation Legend 1867. I was told by Musician's Friend who talked to Ovation that they were coming out with a new 1867 - the LX Model. They are supposedly just upgrading the pre-amp. I also hope they keep the shallow body or I won't be buying it. By the way, Musician's Friend still had a few of the cherry colored models. It seems that this has been one of their most popular models so hopefully they are not stopping production. I was told that in January is when all the Music Trade Shows take place so it will be a few weeks (months?) before the new models roll out. Hope that helps. Dan Winston-Salem, NC ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 11 Feb 2005 19:45:06 -0800 (PST) From: Gerard York Subject: Fripp & Ian Hunter I was at the Astoria in London May 28, 2004 to catch Ian Hunter & Mick Ralphs. My first Ian Hunter concert! I got my picture taken with Hunter and got autographs from Brian May and Luther Grosvenor as well. I could have sworn I saw Fripp a few rows back. Anyone know if that was actually him? Gerard York Tallahassee, Florida ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 20 Feb 2005 11:36:51 -0800 (PST) From: Carl Rudorf Subject: Fripp & Live Performance I for one look forward to Fripp's retirement from live performance, albeit for wholly selfish reasons. Consider for example Canadian pianist Glenn Gould. His creative flowering after he left the concert stage was, I believe, extraordinary. And the recordings he left the world are proof of his genius. The same I suspect will be true of Fripp. Unfettered by the constraints of being a touring musician, Fripp will be free to pursue what is most interesting to him -- solo and collaboratively. Doubtless he'll share and doubtless we'll all enjoy. Carl suburban Chicago, USA ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 21 Feb 2005 08:36:54 EST From: Stamperdanny Subject: DGM Product Suggestion I think the "Young Person's Guide to King Crimson Vol. 2" should contain a bonus DVD which might contain a documentary with interviews/film footage of members past and present. Also some classic concert footage of KC 1972-1974 would be great, along with KC 1981-84 and Non Deja Vroom double trio/KC 2000-2003. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 21 Feb 2005 20:02:29 -0500 From: Tim Breen Subject: Alternative Tunings I just enjoyed a fabulous show of guitarist Habib Koite and his band Bambada from Mali. The program notes indicate that he plays his acoustic guitar with a pentatonic tuning played on open strings ! Can anyone help explain this to me? I played cello, bass and guitar in my younger days, taking also a fair amount of music theory. Stranger perhaps was Koite's very fine bass player played a five string left-handed bass left-handed with the strings reversed! The second guitar player in the band played his right-handed guitar left-handed but with the strings in standard order ! Regardless, the music was outstanding; the interlocking guitar parts had a definitive Krimson touch, circa 1981. Sincerely, Timothy M. What's the content of the new Young Person's Guide that would interest someone that already has all the studio albums and official live releases? For example, I enjoyed A LOT a box set like _The Great Deceiver_, even though it was expensive, but I wouldn't be too thrilled to shell out the big bucks on the newest one only to find I already got all of its contents. -- MIGUEL FARAH // NOmigSPuelAM at lj dot cl #include // http://www.farah.cl <*> "He's dead, Jim." - Dr. McCoy ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 28 Feb 2005 19:03:35 -0500 From: Jim Lange Subject: the Devil's Advocate Dear Fellow Frippers and Crimmers, Permit a few observations please. This is meant as a gentle poke, not a punch, ok? "where a quiet, concentrated audience" An academic audience, that is, an audience based around a conservatory or other fine musical institutions, might afford a chance for the music to come through without rude interuption if the event was invitation only. Invitation might read: Fripp to play soundscapes live. You is invited. Don't tell anyone. Especially any asshole friends. Assuming that this event would be open to the general public, the odds are against you. People no longer feel that it's appropriate to behave themselves. "Robert, I know your not dead yet In fact, I think your better today then you've ever been. But it may be time to consider selling the farm while its still fertile (so to speak). It would be dreadful for your style to discontinue its growth just to sell re-releases of history." Robert's very glad to know that's he's still alive. Saves him a trip to the doctor.
