KC play fast enough for this to be a serious distraction! I've sent 2 copies back and am starting to wonder if they're all like this. Also, when played on my iBook disc 1 sounds like it was recorded through an auto level device (i.e. the volume falters whenever there's a loud bass note). It doesn't do it on a home DVD player. None of my other music DVDs have either problem. What gives?? BTW, I know one other person in the world has noticed the lag on disc 2 - I did a search and found a complaint on an obscure discussion somewhere. -- Steve Rogers The Difference Engine 07866 680370 http://www.difference-engine.co.uk ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 7 Jun 2004 14:02:34 +0100 (BST) From: Bryce Sutherland Subject: Re: Robert as singer? Well Richard, if you have the remastered Three Of A Perfect Pair, one of the bonus tracks is The King Crimson Barbershop Quartet, and Robert sings on it, albeit known as "Bobby"!! In fact it was to have marked Ian McDonald's return to King Crimson as a full member and I believe he was slated to be part of the 'Red' tour. Unfortunately, Robert put an end to Crimson at that time so Starless was the closest we got to hearing what the return of Ian McDonald could have been. WOW! BTW, The Artist Shop will be carrying the new 21st Century Schizoid Band DVD which we get from the band's management. You'll find it posted at . It is region 0, so it'll play on any NTSC compatible DVD player worldwide. I've seen this DVD and I have to report that seeing these classics performed live is definitely NOT to be missed!!! A special treat was the performance of Tomorrow's People from the McDonald & Giles album which is not found on any of the Schizoid Band CD's! Hi there ~ I'm getting in touch as a lurking Elephant Talker, Crimson fan and Stick player... One of my other hobbies is F1 (and design) - and I have written a kind of F1 encyclopedia for iPods (which for such a niche proposition has already had thousands of downloads in a couple of months) - info is here: http://www.kimistuff.com/ipod.html It's been heralded by iPod communities and Mac mags as a cool *new* way of thinking about how to use the iPod and has encouraged me to further the idea. I've bought a domain to host and distribute more of these "podBooks" - things like lists, stats, handy instant reference would be keys to a good one: http://www.ipodlibrary.com (just launched) and am currently writing more (with help) on Peter Gabriel, Noam Chomsky, Dragonball Z and Apple. You may already see where this is headed... I reckon that King Crimson would make an excellent cult reference podBook -- discographies, potted history, line-up listings, bootlegs, suggested playlists to cover different eras, Fripp's (and other key players') solo work - even fun extras like a collection of choice Fripp quotes...? Any chance you'd be interested in writing one? Or pulling together the raw material for me to assemble one? Or if you have colleagues or ET mates who might be interested? Can I ask anyone who's interested in helping pull a Crimson podBook together to email me at gbouch at mac dot com - oh, and feel free to do so if you have a non-Crimson podBook in you as well.... Thanks for you time, Cheers Gareth ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 17 Jun 2004 13:57:09 +0000 From: Sam Scali Subject: DEVIL'S TRIANGLE Question I'm new to the newsletter, so I apologize if this topic has been covered before. In all CD versions of IN THE WAKE OF POSEIDON that I've heard, there is a sonic quirk during "The Devil's Triangle" that does not appear on vintage vinyl editions (I have the original UK pressing as well as the U.S. and Japanese vinyl releases). It sounds almost like a tape defect or warp in the music, just after the "wind" effect - before the tune re-enters at double-speed. Does anyone know if this is an error, or a deliberate alteration for CD release? Smith Subject: Giles & Ayers I recently obtained a CD of Kevin Ayers' mid-70s release, Confessions of Dr. Dream & Other Stories. It has absolutely no liner notes. I used to have this LP and I remember that original K.C.'s Michael Giles drummed on part or all of it, and it had extensive liner notes. Does anyone out there have the liner notes to this CD/LP they could e-mail me or post in E-T? thanks, M.K. Hey ETer's A while ago I read an article about a band made up of sisters and/or brothers who were forced to practice and record by their parents. The end result was one that was so bad that it was good. I can't remember their name anymore so I thought I'd ask a bunch of music listeners with great taste if they know anything about it.
