Sorry, folks ... criticisms, not compliments, to follow: Why is it that bands choose directors that don't (seem to) know the music? Seems, to me, like they never show the drum fills or the bass riffs or whatever at the corect times. I barely saw Trey's "sloping" bass line (or does one of Pat's triggers make that sound?) on Level Five. And, they barely showed Trey's horizontal bass on ConstruKction of Light. Why wasn't the camera positioned properly? (This seemed reminsicent of ELP's concert at Royal Albert Hall ... they didn't have a camera positioned properly to show Emerson's keyboards.) And why show the back of Adrian's head? Is that some neat effect that I can't seeme to appreciate? The music seems too quiet at times. I can understand the boys' desire to save their eardrums, but isn't Crimson supposed to scorch a bit? Why is Adrian wearing an undershirt? Did he just get out of bed? (From the looks of his hair, he just might have.) Mr. Fripp, must you remain in the shadows? Have you no respect for your audience? We pay money to SEE, as well as hear, you. As I've said before, why not just put a cardboard cut-out of yourself on stage while you play backstage. There wouldn't be much difference. The biggest crime? No FraKctured! Dan P.S. Tickets went on sale Saturday for the Friday, 10/31 show at the Canyon Club in Agoura Hills, CA (apparently, they are NOT playing in San Diego as previously noted at some sites). Doors open at 6:00. Showtime is at 8:00. Tickets are $39.50 plus a $1.00 service charge. They have seating for 400 and standing room for 600. You must get on a dinner list to get a reserved table. They will hold a reserved table until 7:00. Should be a very special, holiday show.... -Dave Lick ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 14 Oct 2003 15:50:12 +0400 From: "Turusinov, Andrei S." Subject: Islands LP Hello, everybody! A week ago I have a chance to purchse the Islands LP. It is UK pressing on Island Palm Tree label ILPS 9175. Island Records address is Basing Street London W11, so it looks like this is original pressing of 1971. But the disc is with Coda in the end, what is surprised me, because I thought that this Coda appeared on the album later, or even on CD editins only. My questions are: - is it first pressing of the Islands? - if not, when this last Coda track appeared on the album for the first time? thanks Andrei ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 14 Oct 2003 15:24:59 EDT From: RotateyDiskers at aol dot com Subject: The Vicar and his Manilode Vortices Who is The Vicar? This is the question asked by most visitors to Punk's Corner at www.thevicar.com. A few of the suggestions include Robert Fripp, BrianEno, Daniel Lanois, Peter Gabriel, David Sylvian, Debbie Harry, aHawkwind drummer, Monica Lewinsky and even Tony Blair. Here is a direct quote from Punk Sanderson: "So let's start by getting one thing straight. He does not think of himself as a musician. In fact, he famously left the first band he was in, saying that having two non musicians (him and the singer) in the same band was too much of a liability." Now I first thought that The Vicar resembled Catweasle / Ian Anderson (early period [no idea why]), but now I have the distinct impression that The Vicar has a lot less hair... even less that when he was in his first group the famous art-rock, faux-pink-punk outfit, Romulus Mucus and the Oiks. The guitarist went on to be the famous bearded TV star and forest-dweller Philip "Grizzly" Adams (not bad for an ex-public school boy from South London). The other non-musician, the singer Beauregarde Fandango took off as a solo artist after the band broke up and has carved out a niche for himself on the ships as an entertainer. His notable residencies being Liverpool to Birkenhead and Dover to Calais. Actually, The Vicar and "Grizzly" had a bit of a falling out due mostly to His Rev-ness managing to de-tune "Grizzly's" guitar whilst he was actually playing it live onstage, (all in the name of art). Whatever next..??!! The Vicar, (not his real name, by the way..) brought a refreshing efervesance to an industry that had become flat and stagnant, going throught it as he did like a dose of salts. Prog. had become redundant and was no longer something to which young people aspired or listened. His Victitude became the "industry standard" hip-name-to-drop in the Eighties (along with Des O'Connor and ABBA) when monophonic keyboards and simple sequencers became affordable. Then came polyphony and, just as Joe "Hot Rock" Zawinal said it would, it sorted the men out from the boys and sure enough Duran Duran was born the following week. The influences from across the pond were being predicted and celebrated. Awkward art-rockers "Davinia Biriani and the Heavy Metal Titffers" were wow-ing us Brits with their now famous before-their-time-albums "More TV Programmes About Buildings And Food" and the seminal, S&M slanted album "Remain in Ligatures" (Mmmm! love that Flugel riff). And so it is with great certainty that I can reveal the true identity of The Vicar.. Ladies and Gentlemen I give you..Micky Most.. yes Micky Most that famous televisual New Face and record producer of such hits as "Wig-Wam-Bam (Gonna Make You My Man)" and the great soul classic "Try A Little 10K Boost". (Oh! folly folly!) All of the above has been verifold and signlode offly by Prof. S. Unwin at The Selhurst Populode School off the Musicolly. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 14 Oct 2003 17:17:46 -0700 (PDT) From: Raymond Raupers Subject: KC into Phoenix, AZ rebel paradise. I should have learned the first time, but I thought it must have been a fluke. Twice, I have attempted to convert The Gates of Paradise and Blessing of Tears to MP3's (strictly for personal use, I might add) on my Mac to be played through iTunes. Both times, the tracks appeared in the interface just as any other tracks would have, but when I attempted to import them, the computer started flashing dire warnings that eventually caused the machine not to be able to start up or even mount the hard drive. After many runs of a disk repair utility applied with an external hard drive, I still have not fully restored the machine to its state prior to the importation, though it at least works. Has anyone had this experience, or know what happened, or, most importantly know how to avoid this calamity in the future? I hate not being able to import the music, but at this point those disks will not see the inside of my Mac until I can figure out what the problem is. The aforementioned disks are the only ones with which I have ever had this problem or any problem with regard to importation. Thanks in advance. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 15 Oct 2003 11:02:08 -0500 From: "sportsterrpm1" Subject: Tour Dates My Fellow Krimsonizers, Krimson News has recently reported a newly updated "officially confirmed tour dates", on their website. I do hope that Crimson can find a venue to play here in Connecticut. Possibly Springfeild, or Northampton, Mass.might be an altenate choice. One of the ones I saw was PG II ("Scratch") in stereo, so I would guess PG I ("Car") is out there too. I would be interested if anyone has had a chance to compare the quality of these new SACD issues with the older CDs, or has links to reviews." All of PG's back catalog (from "Car" through "Us") have been released as stereo SACDs. The USA versions are not hybrid. The European versions are hybrid. Order them from amazon.fr. A good place for SACD reviews is www.sacdinfo.com, but only a couple of the PG SACDs are reviewed there. I have "Passion" and "So." I had the original "Passion" & the remastered CD & SACD sound better, but due to my mediocre system, I can't hear much difference between the remastered CD and SACD layers.
