Just curious if anyone knows if the Berkeley 1982 show available via the Crim website has been remastered yet. I actually attended the show and have wanted to get a decent copy of it for some time. I was curious as to the following; 1) Is the sound quality on the remastered CD good? I realize that this was taken from the FM broadcast but sometimes even those can be so-so. 2) Anybody have a good sounding quality of ITKOCK performed by the 81-84 line up of KC? I realize there was one CD released (at least I believe so) with this classic tune but don't know if the quality is any good or not (both performance and sound quality) 3) Looking to trade with anyone for the Belew sung Cadence and Cascade and Levin performed track from the boxed set. Actually, would be interested in trading for a compilation of any rarities from that set (such as the original B-side of Groon). I realize that there has been some debate as to what was the ultimate version of KC. Any wish list of players missing from 21st Century Schzoid Band? Also, how's the CD for the band? As a long time fan, I'm happy to see Collins and McDonald finally in the same line up (and although I'm sad Mike Giles isn't in the line up, I'm quite happy to hear that the incredible Ian Wallace is his replacement). I've checked the website but no mention of US dates. Any word on those? Thanks in advance. I'll send along a trade list to anyone interested. I can understand not liking the scratching, high pitch the violin brings and I definitely like the viola and cello far better. Bagpipes?!? I think the above quote is far more appropriate for bagpipes. Now THAT would turn people off to the music of the band." It seems to me that Robert was just having some fun with free-form thought as his opinions on the violin vacillated over a period of minutes. As far as ET Distribution is concerned, I am constantly in awe of people who run the various non-profit web-sites out there ---- I don't have to wait for 25 banners to download from questionable companies hawking their wares. I know how much of my precious spare time I spend visiting, reading, and sometimes responding to these sites, but I can only imagine how much time it takes to put this package together on a regular basis. Much of this time must include receiving, copying, and incorporating posts from idiots and non-idiots alike. From what I can see, stunted and demented posts are not edited which makes for much lively discussion. There are a lot of sites out there that don't have the balls to post negative messages. Toby and Mike, I applaud your efforts. I am very thankful that, for now, your passions for this newsletter still reach a level which exceeds exasperation with the thankless postings of many. [ Thanks for your kind words --Toby ] Sincerely Yours, Scott from the Big Onion P.S. Is it time to drop the E-bow discussions yet? ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 19 Aug 2003 10:07:28 -0500 From: Scott Ranalli Subject: What the heck is Bob doing? "Just what the heck is Bob doing in the photo on the cover? Is he sneezing? Looking at a airplane passing over head? Passing out? Anybody else have any clues?" I think he's having an aneurism because of all the people who don't know him, but insist on calling him Bob. This version, however, is much better than "Bobby". While we're on the subject, I wonder if "Ade" feels the same way too, though probably not since he's generally not wound anywhere near as tight as Robert. :-) ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 19 Aug 2003 15:33:24 -0700 From: "Proginoskes" Subject: Re: Chapman Stick One website with a Chapman Stick discography is http://stick.phui.com/ . -- Christopher "HeKcman" ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 20 Aug 2003 03:16:44 EDT From: Wilcox660 at aol dot com Subject: Re: Fripp's online diary ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 20 Aug 2003 09:23:40 EDT From: Nitmotized at aol dot com Subject: Chapman Stick Well I read the post regarding the use of the Chapman Stick. I lveo Tony Levin but he is not very adept at the use of the stick...There are a few masters of the stick. The one artist I am familiar with and have seen perform live a couple of times is Greg Howard. Listening to him play will enlighten you to the possibilities of the Stick. His playing is spectacular and something to behold. Try and listen to his work. He has quite a few CD's. You will enjoy him! Did you hear the Craig Armstrong version? It's nice. Rikard from Sweden offers KC some advice: >They should add "No Talking or Applause or any other Noise" to the "No Smoking, Recording and Photos"-banners. Darryl, a good place to start is the official Stick Enterprises site, http://www.stick.com. There, you will find the history of the instrument itself, as well as an artists' gallery, reprints of links to articles about the Stick, etc. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 20 Aug 2003 14:06:08 -0400 From: b_carlto at bellsouth dot net Subject: Two Belews? How do you think that since I asked a question about a piece of music from 30 years ago, that I neglect and abhor new music by the same group? Since I'm 17 years old, how can I have even been stuck in the past with blind, unchanging adoration for a short period of time in a band's history? Since I received many reply emails and responses to my question, how is the GD boxset inaccessible to Crimheads reading this newsletter? Why do you sound inane? With "great respect," Rick P.S. Hi - Adrian would be proud! AB's Twang Bar King was playing loud and proud this last Sunday evening here in Massachusetts while roadies scurried around setting up for the Jeff Beck band. It's simply been years since I've heard this music as the cassette I have has died a terrible death. I'm moved to pick up the CD from the AB site: http://www.adrianbelew.net/ And Jeff Beck was amazing - what he can do with a volume knob and a whammy bar and his bare fingers is without parallel anywhere... If you have not yet heard "You Had It Coming" -- check out samples here... http://www.jeffbeckmusic.com/ And if you've never seen Mr. B -- go!!! go!!! go!!! http://jeffbeck.com/jeffbeck_tour.html Damn! Not bad for a man that I understand RF once described as not even knowing how to hold a guitar pick correctly. I can imagine that the idea of sending one for free is not feasible, so a suggestion might be to release it as a low-priced 'cd-only' version (without the booklet) and as a regularly-priced item for people who did not buy it before. And of course I would be VERY much interested in material from the KC 2003 tour, e.g. the concert at North Sea Jazz festival in The Hague, Holland. Any other ideas?
