In addition, we believe it is the right of every artist to sell their own tickets; for without the artist there would be no tickets. Recently, there has been a mandate attempting to require us to meet arbitrary "fan club rules" in order to sell tickets. For instance, we must charge you a mandatory annual membership fee of $15. We must make our events password-protected so that they're not available to the general King Crimson public. We must rely on an existing King Crimson fan club - not just a "ticket buying club." And finally, we must offer the opportunity to purchase merchandise and interact w/ band members via a chat room. We are not willing to jump thru these hoops, at the expense of the people who keep us all in business. You, the people who support live music. The Fripper 'mandating' crapola guidelines?... that keeps me from getting 'true-fan' tickets ahead of time? Could it be The Fripper & Co. wants a piece of the $15 'membership fee'?????? In which case, I have a simple reply: Bobby, kiss my arse UTTERLY disappointed, a 'True-Fan' P.S. King Crimson is now a Clear Channel lackey????????????????? We regret to inform you that SCI Ticketing will not be able to offer tickets for any of King Crimson's Clear Channel-promoted concerts. This affects the following dates: March 5/6 in New York, March 8 in Boston, March 13 in Detroit, March 28 in San Francisco, and March 29 in Los Angeles. To purchase tickets for any of the Clear Channel-promoted King Crimson events, we suggest you visit Ticketmaster. Bobby, if you are sucking the hind teat of Clear Channel, then I'm even more disappointed than I was before.... :( :( :( ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 12 Feb 2003 11:17:34 +0100 From: Julien Laurencelle Subject: Gaps on Ladies of the Road album To those who were asking why there were strange cuts and gaps on the "Ladies of the Road" album, or thinking that these were errors, I found out some little notes on the DGM website: Technical notes: Track 9 of disc 1 cuts off at 48 seconds Track 11 of disc 2 has a 60-second silence at 4:75 These were on the master tapes. Good thing too, I didn't pay out to see some bunch of nobodies you wouldn't ever pay to see. If you pay to hear KC thats who you want to hear. But... I did once pay to see someone, and the support band were Split Enz - they were brilliant and me and most of the crowd left after the main band's first song. From these sessions you can tell how much the core quartet influenced the Vroooom rehearsal sessions as opposed to how much the sextet had integrated by the time of the Nashville sessions. Also, for all of you who felt slighted by the brevity of the re-released KC cd "Beat," I found that if you intersperse various cuts off of the Champaign-Urbana sessions, you get a very interesting cd. (DERAM, Stereo, SML1022 published in 1968). I asked one of the staff to play it for me, upon which (as if in an episode of the muppet show) his boss suddenly appeared from behind a curtain looking annoyed in my direction and said as loud and clear as it can get in a customer filled music shop: " Are you NUTS, that's a 10 pound record!!!". Everybody looked at me and I must confess that at the time I was rather intimidated but now, being 28 years older, it is a good laugh. Anyway, I convinced the manager that I was really interested and so he allowed his staff to let me hear it. I paid the 10 quid and the album was mine. I still have it, played it only one time, so it is in very good condition. My question is could anybody give me an indication of the current value of that collectors item album? Please respond. They are not Happy To Have What they Have To review With either and conclude that it is time for this KC to split. Mind you this is the same magazine that, when they did the 'Best 100' albums of all time failed to include an entry for No. 99. Nor was there a mention of ITCOTCK (the usual reference for such polls) or Red (my choice) or Discipline (an amazing choice). Any 2 of those 3 IMHO would have sufficed to represent KC and every act was limited to two entries. Relevant? They had Billy Idol in there...and still called his album dated horribly... but no KC >|[ In a way it made matters more infuriating by a brief article in the same issue about the cover for ITCOTCK, fine but amention of the contents in this 'illustrious' list would have been appropriate. It's about time somebody put things right and have KC play (tour, TV special) in the UK. Show what they really have and what Joe Public is missing out on by being fed hits (anagram) on Hi Rotate FM. After all if Adrian is going to be interviewed here would it not be inappropriate for his (main) band to play here. I know the costs of touring outweighs the immediate gains but KC has enough mainstream type material to appeal to the mainstream type audience. (Obviousley not on ThakaTTaK.) But Eyes Wide Open might be a timely hit if not an accurate portrayal of the awesome might of Crimson in that Lark's Tongue 4 spectacular. Regrettably people are still led by this hit single pop mentality . So it would be immensely satisfying (for me but probably for other EThedz) for KC to do sonically to the public in 2003, what the cover of ITCOTCK did visually to that not so very different public in 1969. In this age of the irrational we need the power to believe. This is a bit like Roy Harper's album 'Lifemask' in that it is dedicated to those who would never hear it. The latest part is one in which Ade comments about "fan" criticisms on the internet, and especially in this digest in the past. What is fascinating about this interview is that while other band members have maintained online diaries that have given us insight into their lives and thinking, and Adrian has always been fan friendly at performances, he has maintained a somewhat low profile online. Yet in this interview he really opens up. Part 14 is the first of many parts that really dive into what Adrian is all about, and probably the most revealing of the series. The other parts are also very interesting mind you. Once again, you can listen to them at the King Crimson Web site. Outside of the horrendous Hyde Park '69 KCCC release and the Not Quite Ready for Prime Time B'Boom, there is much to value in most live KC recordings. My short list would include: >From the 70's: The Great Deceiver and the KCCC Central Park 7/1/74 show. Sorry, TGD is four expensive discs, but you simply have to own it. 7/1/74 is The Sound and The Fury. No slight intended to USA or The Nightwatch, which need to be picked up as soon as you can afford to. >From the 80's: Absent Lovers. Probably the single most essential release in the history of KC. >From the 90's: The best double trio set is the KCCC Live on Broadway release. They were really firing on all cylinders at this point in their brief lifespan. I love all of the live quartet material, but would give the nod to Heavy ConstruKction for all of the frightening improvs. I also have to recommend biting the bullet and buying the ProjeKcts box set.
