While i went to order, it was VERY much to my suprise that tickets for the show costs 40 dollars apeice. Last time i had seen crimson in cleveland, tickets were 30 dollars, maybe 35. When i had seen Radiohead two summers ago, tickets were 37. I am wondering if anyone can provide me with some decent justification on why tickets to crimson are so expensive? I wonder this just because i know King Crimson isnt the most popular of bands, and figured that ticket prices wouldnt be so highm since they arent that popular and too high in demand. Is it because not many people will go to the shows so they have to charge more in order to make more money? Anyways, yeah, just looking for some possible insight on the ticket price. Not complaining about it either; i dont have to go to the show if i dont want to, crimson doesnt force me to buy a ticket. I'm just a curious Fan :) On a side note; anyone aware if crimson is going to have any opening act? I beleive Tony left the tour due to illness." Reading that brought back some vivid memories for me. I was at the ABWH show in Houston, which may have been the last show Tony played with them. Our seats were high up on Tony's side of the stage, where we could see a small part of the backstage area. About halfway through the show during an acoustical break Tony took a few steps backstage and sat down, put his head between his knees, and proceeded to get very sick for several minutes. I even remember Bill jumping up from his kit and running over to see if Tony was okay. The amazing thing was that Tony valiantly finished the set, and continued to play so well that 95% of the audience had no idea he was sick as a dog (I believe he he was suffering from a acute case of food poisoning). The guy's certainly a trooper. :) ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 3 Feb 2003 09:40:05 -0800 From: "PT" Subject: defective CDs from DGM. I get them too but of all the bazillion CD I have bought in the last decade or so, the only ones with pressing defects have been those from DGM. Does anyone else share this experience? I've got some 4,000 CDs in my collection. the only ones that seem to be defective when I first play them on a regular basis - are some of the DGM titles ( I've had at least 2 or 3 bad discs in recent years - although they've always replaced them for me) and also a few titles I've ordered directly from the band Fairport Convention. I don't know if DGM happen to use the same pressing plant that Fairport does, but it's odd how often a defective disc happens from these two bands/labels. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 3 Feb 2003 18:08:51 -0300 From: "Diderot" Subject: Empty Frame/Rockford Files Mike Dennis wrote: "Am I alone in thinking it a bit weird so many KCers know about the Rockford Files?" No, you aren't. It was funny to know how diverse is ET'ers background. I think it is connect to what Rick said about "listen to other music then just King Crimson". For example I listen to Rammstein and NIN among a hundred of bands I like, but I never listened to Tool (I can't find their records here, other than imports...). Back to the subject, I liked a lot Rockford Files, but here, in Brazil, the name was changed to "Arquivo Confidencial"/Classified File, and after 20 years it was hard for me to make the connection to "RF", but I was almost sure there was no relation to Robert Fripp. Diderot ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 04 Feb 2003 00:30:18 +0000 From: "Spear man" Subject: ot brainticket >I can't deny that I felt a bit guilty - I mean, has anyone EVER bought a >Brainticket album in the history of the world? spearman waves--I did a few years back. the title you dl'ed. I had the chance to get, as many others, an advanced copy of the cd. I also heard Level Five, Live at Nashville, Happy With... + a bootleg of new songs performed in 2001. Looking also at the web site King Crimson Live ( http://members.aol.com/kingcrimsonlive/index.htm ), an excellent site which gives us a list of the songs recorded on bootlegs, I have retraced the live origin of songs on The Power to Believe. - Level Five, Dangerous Curves and Elektrik, which we had heard on Level Five or Live at Nashville, have always been preformed live under those titles. But if you want to find the first inspiration of Dangerous Curves, listen to "Mars" or "The Devil's Triangle"! - Eyes Wide Open, which we heard on Happy, has never been performed live. - Facts of Life, the "new song" of TPTB, was performed live under the title "Response to Stimuly". It was pratically an intrumental song at this time and Facts of Life is a far better version of that piece. - The Power to Beleive II is a meddley of "Vicious Circle" (on Level Five) and of "Sho Ga Nai" (on Happy) with new arrangements (including, as it was written on ET, a theme from Sylvian and Fripp's track "Bringing Down The Light") and a reprise of the "haiku" that appears on The Power to Believe I. But I think nobody wrote yet that Vicious Circle was first performed live under the title "Cyriel". - Happy with... was performed live under the title "ConstruKction" or in a meddley with "Heavy ConstruKction" which we heard on the live cd Cirkus. It was an instrumental piece at this time. - The Power to Believe III takes its inspiration, as it was written on ET, in some parts of "The Deception of the Thrush". Finally, even it is not, unfortunately, on TPTB, the song Potatoe Pie, which we heard on Happy, was performed live under the title "Crimson Blues". It was an instrumental piece at this time. Some people were deceived by the fact that TPTB doesn't contain much new material. But we must understand that this cd is, as Fripp wrote it, "the culmination of three years of Crimsonosing" and a synthesis of previous live works presented in improved versions. Also, for people who don't follow KC as ETers do, this cd will be a real new one and, in my opinion, a very good one, better than "The ConstruKction of Light". The more I listen to "Happy With" the more I realize what a gem this little sucker is!!!! How many tracks do you think it took to record any of these songs? I"ll bet not too many overdubs on any of these pieces! Alot of studio first takes is my guess...And it really comes off flawless...Is (LTIA IV) live in the studio or is it just me? Is Fripp really getting better at sound scapes? Listen to "MIE GAKURE" I think so! This is the most intense piece on the album!!!And is "Shoganai" a live improve? I hear Pat & Adrian on cymbols,Trey adding a little bass in the right places, and I think that it's Fripp who's coming in at the end. Check it out! Acoustic "EYE'S WIDE OPEN" is really nice! I want to see Fripp and Adrian on acoustics together onstage!!! Wouldn't that be sweet? And even though the song is kind of shallow, "Happy With" proves that these guys can play the heaviest stuff without even breaking a sweat!!! What's Next??? I've got over 1000 CDs (not counting the many I've sold over the years), dating back to the late 80s. the only ones I have had ANY problems with are 2nd-hand ones that had bad scratches when I bought them. I've even got a couple with the well-documented "bronzing"effect that still play OK. Y'know, it's real simple: just as with LPs, all you need to do is look after them and not scratch them and they will last, if not forever, then for a very long time. What's wrong with you guys (& gals)? :-) TTFN, David Maclennan ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 4 Feb 2003 17:03:10 -0000 From: "Darren" Subject: The Power to Believe - UK reviews The first reviews of TPTB have been trickling in: Mojo - Feb 2003 Robert Fripp's quartet turns up the amps on CD with working title Nuovo Metal. After King Crimson's tour with Tool, it's said that Ozzy Osbourne's son Jack is fan, and it might be tempting to hear this as Fripp's album for the nu-metal crowd. Certainly thunderous riffs tumble over each other on Level Five and Facts of Life, backed by fusillades of electronic and acoustic percussion. But there is subtlety too - the tinkling gamelans that give way to a shimmering soundscape on The Power to Believe II; the intricate guitar knots that Fripp and Adrian Belew weave throughout. Other delights include a superhuman Fripp solo on Facts of Life (why isn't it higher in the mix?). As with Crimson's previous album The ConstruKction of Light, the team is happy to revisit the past; you'll hear eachoes of Discipline; once, even, the ancient Devil's Triangle. But this is a more consistent set, and, hopefully, a revelation for a few young metal heads. John Bungey Q - March 2003 *** (3 stars out of 5) Fiendish guitar noise from prog-rock institution. Guitarist Robert Fripp's King Crimson have been ploughing their obdurate furrow for, gulp, 34 years now. With vocalist and ex-Bowie fret-mangler Adrian Belew on board, this latest is a melange of preposterously angular guitar exercises (Level Five), accomplished balladry (Eyes Wide Open) and portentious doggerel (much of the rest). Last word on my original comments about CD Durability. The record industry's primary audience (ie. The group that buys the most CDs) are young, teenagers. Despite the fact that the typical anal-retentive King Crimson keeps all 6000 of their CDs in mint condition for 20 years running, typical teenagers inevitably DO scratch and even break their CDs. And when that happens, the (evil) record industry expects them to go out and buy a replacement. That's all I'm saying.. Hopefully that will end it..
